In its continued bid to accord priority to tourists with special needs and offer them the best of services available anywhere in the world, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) held the first meeting of the 2006 Task Force for special needs recently.

The task force was formed by the DTCM with panel members drawn from representatives of the Department of Civil Aviation, DNATA, Dubai International Financial Centre, Jumeirah International, Dubai Municipality and Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department (DNRD).

The members discussed and reviewed new ways of promoting special needs tourism in the emirate, highlighting the role that DTCM plays in providing tourism services and facilities, especially to the special needs visitors. The objectives for the year 2006 and the membership criteria was also discussed during the course of the meeting.

In line with its interest in tapping the special needs visitors' market, the DTCM always takes the lead in its effort to provide facilities and special services for the physically-challenged people.

The DTCM has also launched the second edition of the 'Simply Accessible' pocket guide with the idea of catering to the special needs tourists particularly for the wheel-chair bound people.

The pocket book is a handy guide for services at Dubai Airport, car/transport services, hotel establishments, heritage sites, tours, cinemas, parks, shopping centres for people with special needs.

It also offers tips on how to obtain a driving license, special equipments, hospital and medical facilities.

The pocket guide was distributed at the recently-concluded Rehab 2006 and will also be made available at Dubai's hotel and tourism establishments, DTCM overseas offices and ATM 2006.
