BMW Group has announced the introduction of new, state-of-the-art technologies that offer increased safety and greater convenience for owners of its premium positioned cars.
Reinforcing BMW Group’s commitment to developing market-leading technologies for the benefit of its customers, the company is offering new rear- and front-end cameras and Bi-Xenon headlights that can be ordered for new vehicles or retrofitted to older cars.
While drivers will have a better than ever view of the road thanks to the new technologies, passengers will be able to watch their favourite movies, play games or listen to audio CDs on the BMW DVD System.
“BMW Group and its importers in the Middle East seek to give owners of the ultimate driving machine the ultimate ownership experience, one that consistently satisfies individual needs and exceeds expectations,” said Guenther Seemann, Managing Director of BMW Group Middle East.
“Our motto for the new rear-end camera is, ‘See more - feel safer’. We hope that this and other new additions to BMW Group’s range of accessories will enhance the driving experience for the owners of our premium brand cars.”
BMW’s new rear-end camera provides drivers with a better view of the area to the rear of the vehicle when reversing. The CCD (charged coupled device) colour camera can be integrated inconspicuously into the boot lid. When the driver shifts into reverse gear, optical information is transferred to the car’s onboard monitor, giving a broadened field of view of 131 degrees.
The rear-end camera retrofit kit is available for the BMW 3 Series and older BMW 5 Series models, the BMW X5 and the current BMW 7 Series. Owners who don’t have the necessary onboard monitor and TV function can also have these retrofitted.
The front-end camera, which is used in conjunction with the rear-end camera, transfers a 90 degree field of view to an onboard monitor by means of a prism lens, providing the driver with a considerably better view of other vehicles to each side, ensuring improved safety. The inconspicuous CCD colour camera, which is self cleaning and has high light sensitivity, is integrated into the front spoiler below the registration plate.
BMW is also offering Bi-Xenon light technology as an accessory to high beam headlights, generating a colour similar to daylight. The technology is available for all current BMW 3 Series models, except for the BMW 3 Series Compact, and is under preparation for retrofitting to the current BMW 7 Series and Z4.
Additional Xenon headlights are also available for all BMW 3 Series models, except the BMW 3 Series Compact, and older BMW 5 Series models. The technology is also under preparation for retrofitting to the new BMW 5 Series and the new BMW X3. Mounted in the recess for the fog lamps and producing a beam twice as bright as a conventional halogen light, the additional Xenon headlights intensify contrasts and improve spatial vision, offering extremely high performance and ensuring relaxed and safe driving at night. And because Xenon light reduces power consumption by two thirds, the life span of the Xenon lights is significantly longer than that of halogen lights.
The BMW DVD System, which is fitted to the roof lining and perfectly integrated into the vehicle, offers a real increase in comfort. The system, which includes a seven inch swivelling screen and infrared remote control, as well as two high-quality cordless headphones, is available for all BMW saloon and touring models, except for the BMW 7 Series. As well as DVDs, audio CDs, including MP3 format, can be played, and external image sources, such as camcorders or game consoles, can be connected to the system.
“For expert advice on how these exciting, state-of-the-art technologies can help drivers ‘See more and feel safer’, our customers should contact their local authorised importer of BMW cars and motorcycles,” said Seeman.
