Muscat, July 7, 2009.  Dr. Azad Moopen, chairman, Dr. Moopen's Group and founder of the newly opened Al Raffah Hospital in Al Ghobrah, Muscat has recently received the "Best Doctor Award" by the Government of Kerala, for his outstanding contributions to the society.  Dr. Moopen is the only recipient of such award from the private healthcare sector in Kerala.

A doctor turned entrepreneur, Dr. Azad Moopen is a professional with a philanthropic mind who strives to keep the commitment to provide quality  and affordable healthcare services to the down trodden society.  

Dr. Moopen was instrumental in establishing the leading tertiary care Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) at Calicut with NRI investment of more than USD 12 million, providing direct employment to nearly 1500 people.

With the distinction of being the first multi-specialty hospital in India, MIMS provides quality healthcare to the door steps of the people of Malabar who had to travel to other estates to get access to advanced treatment.

The MIMS Academy directly helps more than 1000 students every year in building bright future in healthcare in 47 medical and para medical courses including several PG courses.

Under the leadership of Dr. Azad Moopen, the MIMS Charitable Trust is extending free and subsidized medical treatment to thousands of poor people. Dr. Moopen is in the process of setting up a Community Dialysis Centre at Vadakara to provide free and subsidized dialysis to the poor patients, personally donating 11 dialysis machines for USD 6 million.

Dr. Moopen's Group has expanded its healthcare services in the Gulf region. In Dubai, it conducted a "SAVE A LITTLE HEART" campaign to raise nearly USD 6.5 million for poor children who require cardiac surgery. Dr. Azad Moopen has been selected as the Best Keralite Medical Practitioner in UAE in a survey conducted by the Arabia Daily, and  was honored in a public function.

Under the Al Raffah Hospital in Muscat, Dr. Moopen's Group recently spearheaded a free medical camp which was aimed at providing everyone with special awareness of their physical condition, thus spreading knowledge of a safer and healthier tomorrow.
