One of the most prominent experts taking part in Dubai Global Energy Forum 2011

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India, arrived yesterday to Dubai to participate in the Dubai Global Energy Forum 2011, which is being organized by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, during the period between 17 and April 19, 2011 at the Center Dubai World Trade Centre.

Commenting on his visit to Dubai, Dr. Abdul Kalam said: "Sustainability comes in two things. Number one is availability. The second one is whether we can have a green energy future. I'm very happy that Dubai Global Energy Forum is addressing green energy. Particularly, India has just now launched a programme for solar power station providing 20,000 Megawatts by the year 2020. So we are very happy to have a sustainable energy programme. We have national interest and international interest and I am very keen to attend."

Dr. Abdul Kalam's participation supports the forum, as he has vast experience in the energy field and its uses. He is also one of the leading scientists in India and holds a unique rank of honor, as he received numerous honorary doctorates from 40 universities and institutions from India and abroad.

Dr Abdul Kalam's participation stresses the importance of Dubai Global Energy Forum 2011 as a leading energy event on the regional and international levels, especially as it is being held for the first time in Dubai. The forum will see the participation of global leaders and experts in the energy sector, from both public and private companies, international organizations and academic institutions to participate in plenary sessions and sharing experiences, knowledge and visions on present and future sustainable energy sources.

Dr Abdul Kalam became the President of the Republic of India in July 2002. He graduated from the College of St. Joseph's College in the city of Trichy, and completed his studies at the Madras Institute of Technology in Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu State, where he majored in aeronautical engineering. He then moved to the field of space rockets and satellites technology, where he made a significant contribution as project Director to develop India's first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-3) which placed an India made satellite in space making the country an exclusive member of the space club.
