Doha Bank today (Sunday) became the first Qatari bank to have a representative office in Dubai, the major commercial and trading centre of the Gulf region.
The new office, in Deira’s Twin Towers, was inaugurated by HE Yousef Saad Al Manna, Qatar’s consul general in Dubai, and HE Sheikh Abdul Rehman Bin Mohammad Bin Jabor Al-Thani, Doha Bank’s managing director.
“This is a major step which will open up many avenues to participate in cross border trading and investment opportunities in the UAE and Qatar,” said HE Sheikh Abdul Rehman Bin Mohammad Bin Jabor Al-Thani.
“Dubai has become a major commercial centre in the Gulf and our presence here will further boost the commercial activities between the two countries.”
Also present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony were R. Seetharaman, Doha Bank’s acting general manager; Peter Sherman, assistant general manager – Business Group; and Yousif Al Naama, executive manager – International and Institutional Banking.
R. Seetharaman commented: “Trade between Dubai and Doha has been increasing day by day with both economies doing extremely well. Doha Bank’s new representative office will help serve these strong commercial relations.”
Doha Bank’s management has appointed Abdulla Al Saei as senior manager of the new office, which will focus on developing commercial and trading relations with the international and offshore banking community.
The Dubai office will also promote the existing facility of Doha Bank’s branch in New York. Doha Bank is the only Qatari bank with presence in the American commercial heartland and can offer very competitive and efficient services not only to Qatari, but also to others GCC companies and citizens.
Dubai representative office will facilitate commercial and investment related transactions in a highly efficient manner between corporate, institutes and individual across the countries. It will provide information on commercial activity in Qatar and highlight potential investment opportunities to UAE companies and citizens.
Another key role the representative office will play will be to leverage the core competencies and significant experience Doha bank possesses in deal making and as a lead arranger/financier of large-scale transactions.
Doha Bank has achieved considerable success in Qatar in this area, particularly in relation to whole range of activities associated with IPO.
