The Doha Bank has tied up with two leading banks in Jordan, the Arab Banking Corporation (ABC) and the Housing Bank for Trade and Finance to offer its consumer banking services to Jordan and Palestine.
At the agreement signing ceremony held at the Doha Bank premises on Monday, ABC was represented by Shafik T Dweik, senior manager, financial institutions department and Khalid Al Zoubi, manager, remittances.
Omar Al Amad, Jordanian ambassador to Qatar inaugurated the service. Khaled Shawabkeh, second secretary at the embassy was also present.
Speaking to the press on the occasion, Seetharaman, acting general manager of Doha Bank said new facility will cater to the nearly 80,000 expatriate workers in Qatar from Jordan and Palestine. 'Currently, Jordanians and Palestinians in Qatar are using traditional remittance channels. These are not cost-effective and are time-consuming,' he said.
ABC has one of the biggest retail banking units in Jordan with 22 branches. The Housing Bank is the largest bank in Jordan with 96 branches in Jordan and four branches in Palestine. It offers account credit service and cash payment to beneficiaries in Jordan and Palestine.
ABC and Housing Bank will very soon place their officials in Doha Bank premises, said Seetharaman. These banks will offer full-fledged consumer banking services to their customers such as opening new local currency accounts (saving, current and fixed deposit accounts), internet banking services, retail investment products, consumer and housing loans, free legal tax advisory services, investment opportunities in national banks and others.
They will also offer remittances in US dollars, Euro, Jordanian Dinar, free account transfers within the same bank and fast cash to non account holders.
