Dubai, United Arab Emirates, ?, 26th April, 2006:- The Executive board of Dubai Medical College for Girls (DMCG) praised the new Innovative Medical Education program applied this academic year 2005/2006 during a review meeting held yesterday at the Departments Of Health and Medical Services (DOHMS) in Dubai. The Executive Board of DMCG reviewed the progress in DMCG during the academic year in the areas of quality of education and examination, accreditation process and institutional effectiveness assessment, faculty development, student activities and academic achievements.
"Over the past decade, many changes in medical education particularly at the undergraduate level were introduced. Increasingly, innovative curricula, methods and educational tools were developed due to the cooperation of medical professionals with sociologists, psychologists, information specialists and those in many other related professions" stated Dr. Rashid Bin Shabib, Vice Chairman of DOHMS and Chairman of DMCG Executive Board. "Innovative Medical Education is a community-oriented medical education program, it has been in operation successfully at DMCG and we will continue to comprehensively evaluate its results". He added.
The Innovative Medical Education program is an integrated framework of Problem-Based Learning that allows undergraduate medical students to be better exposed to specific human and community needs and benefit from more experiential and inductive methods of learning. The integrated teaching program, implemented in the pre-clinical phase, ensures a comprehensive understanding of the subjects and prepares students for the clinical phase.
"DMCG adopts a system of self-learning, which represents the core of all recent educational philosophies, our teaching program has continually been evaluated and updated to impart cutting edge medical education" said Prof. Mohamed Galal El Din Ahmed, Dean, Dubai Medical College for Girls. " DMCG provides a distinguished Islamic environment, modern medical educational program and state-of-the-art facilities and we are glad that the students union activities this year included scientific, cultural, social and sports activities along with organizing the first Medical Students Conference in the UAE last month." He added.
DMCG was the first college to award a degree in medicine & surgery in the UAE. The college was established in 1986 as a not-for-profit educational venture by the visionary entrepreneur Haj Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Lootah to offer girls in the United Arab Emirates and the region an opportunity to study medicine and avoid the troubles and risks of traveling abroad.
