Waste Management Department, Dubai Municipality has been working on an ambitious Waste Management master plan for the next 20 years that would cover all categories of waste.
This was stated by Eng. Salah AbdulRahman Amiri, Assistant Director General for Environment & Public Health Services Sector at Dubai Municipality during a workshop on Waste Management problem Analysis conducted by municipality's Consultant Mott MacDonald on Monday 23rd of January 2012 in municipality club.
Mott MacDonald is currently undertaking the development of an Integrated Waste Management Master plan for the Emirate of Dubai on behalf of Dubai Municipality which will provide a structure for waste management in Dubai until 2030.
The workshop was attended by Eng. Abdulmajeed Abdulaziz Saifaie, Director Waste Management Department, other officials from Dubai Municipality and various private sector key stakeholders companies engaged in waste management services in Dubai.
"Dubai Municipality is not only responding to the current demand for efficient and effective waste management but also safeguarding economic growth and social development as well through its integrated approach to a sustainable and innovative waste management system. Working under the sustainability banner, Dubai Municipality is keen to bring this initiative to fruition,"
Eng. Saifaie informed that Waste Management Department primarily aims to reduce the amount of waste generated and secondly, reduce the amount of waste being sent to the landfills by using the integrated and innovative approach to waste management by implementing waste recycling projects. We hope to achieve 'zero land filling,' of waste by the end of 20 years through this waste minimization strategy.
Dubai Municipality will take all positive steps necessary to preserve and protect the environment in the emirate, particularly with regard to the management of resources, waste management and pollution control.
