Dubai Municipality has launched in cooperation with Emirates Gas and Dubai Civil Defence the first phase of the gas safety awareness campaign under the title "Check your cylinder ... Ensure your safety" during 15-30 of this month. This came as part of the keenness of the Municipality to educate users of domestic gas to ensure its optimum use.
In view of the widespread use of LP Gas cylinders at homes and commercial establishments like hotels, restaurants etc, there is a need for consumers to be aware of the proper use of LP Gas as the product is highly inflammable in nature. LP Gas is stored under pressure in the cylinders and the product could expand several fold in case of increase in temperature thus making it explosive.
This campaign is aimed to promote a culture of consumers, especially women, about the dangers of incorrect use of LP gas cylinders, as safety precautions become extremely important with the advent of holy Ramadan.
Engineer Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality said that maintaining the human safety and health is the duty of every member of society. With the advent of summer, high temperatures, holy Ramadan and increasing pressure on kitchens, the incidents and fires of gas cylinders are more serious.
" The next stages of the campaign in the second half of this year will be including distribution of awareness brochures through petrol stations and inspectors of Municipality and Civil Defence . Each of the participating members (Municipality, Emirates Gas and Civil Defence) will also visit approximately 5000 house / units. In addition, public awareness programmes will be organized in the customer service centers of Municipality, RTA, Dewa, and cooperative societies," Lootah said.
"Everyone should comply with all safety procedures when it comes to dealing with gas cylinders, any small incident can have serious consequences, and besides, the campaign will focus on how to handle and store cylinders safely" he added.
As part of its commitment to the society, Emirates Gas regularly conducts training and awareness programs for distributors, consumers and provides safety booklets and information for consumers on its internet portal www.emiratesgas.ae.
Saeed Abdullah Khoory, ENOC's Chief Executive Officer, said, "EMGAS, Dubai Municipality and Dubai Civil Defence have tied up in the pursuit of generating more awareness of safe LPG usage and preventing untoward incidents from happening. While we at EMGAS have recently introduced valves and regulators with additional built in safety features, we believe that this new campaign is equally important in educating households and establishments that use LP Gas cylinders for their cooking needs. Through this awareness campaign, we again highlight our commitment to the utmost safety and security of our customers.
