As part of keeping the city clean and safe Dubai Municipality has issued ultimatum to owners of certain abandoned buildings recently in Dubai, of which details including photos are published in the leading news papers.

Owners have to carry out maintenance activities needed or demolish them off completely within two weeks from the day of notification.

The new order will be applicable to 18 buildings that are abandoned or neglected without maintenance located in different places in Dubai including Al Baraha,  Al-Wuheida, Al-Qouz 1, Al-Qouz 2, Al-Jafiliyya, Muhaisina 2 and Hor Al-Anz areas. Four buildings out of this list locate in Hor Al-Anz area.

If the parties fail to respond to the order within the specific time period, the civic body will carry out demolition activities using its machinery.

In the case of civic body taking over the demolition, the owners will be imposed the cost of work plus 20% extra as administration charges.

Dubai Municipality has been keen on taking strict actions against abandoned buildings in Dubai in order to maintain the aesthetic beauty of the city as well as to ensure the public health & safety.

It has been noticed that most of the abandoned buildings serving as a hot-bed to insects and other creatures that risk health of public.

Half-constructed-then-abandoned buildings pose a threat to the safety of public.

Also, in some instances, such buildings were found being used by illegal persons to do their unlicensed business as well as serving as safe haven for anti-social elements.
