Dubai - DLA Piper, the global law firm, has again been awarded the Tier One slot in the UAE for legal advice related to the Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) sector. This is the fifth year running that the firm has been recognised as tier one in TMT, most recently by Chambers and Partners, one of the world's leading legal research houses.

The award comes on the back of advising leading companies across the GCC and represents the focus the firm places on providing innovative legal advice that is based on a deep understanding of the sector, on both a local and international level.

Ken Dearsley, DLA Piper's Head of Intellectual Property and Technology in the Middle East commented on the award, "We are delighted to be ranked Tier One for the fifth year running as the ranking recognises our success working on the most exceptional deals in the region, and for some of the best known and most successful organisations. This public recognition of our market leading position is something which has remained constant over the past five years and has been made possible due to our commitment to the TMT space, our people and our clients, ensuring we have the bandwidth to support the largest and most complex transactions, as well as the broad spectrum expertise to cover any TMT mandate."

Two members of the eight person regional team were mentioned in the award overview. Ken Dearsley, DLA Piper's Head of Intellectual Property and Technology in the Middle East is described as "a media law legend in the Middle East, bringing many years of experience to the team"; and Paul Allen, partner, "impresses clients with his modern outlook and commercial knowledge".

Commenting on the announcement, Abdul Aziz Al Yaqout, DLA Piper's Regional Managing Partner in the Middle East said: "The TMT team has always been at the forefront of their sector and we're delighted that yet again their hard work and commitment has been externally recognised. As well as being top tier for TMT, the firm has also been recognised in the Intellectual Property and Real Estate sectors,  both third tier, and in Egypt the firm is second tier for its corporate advice. With a presence in every GCC country, the firm provides commercially focused advice across the region and we're delighted that the firm is being recognised across so many fields of business law."
