In a bid to replenish fish stocks and marine life in the waters surrounding Bahrain, leading environmental advocate DIYAR AL MUHARRAQ released a second batch of fish as a part of the Ras Hayyan project. The event was attended by Mr. Abdulhakeem Alkhayyat Chairman of DIYAR AL MUHARRAQ, Mr. Aaref Hejres CEO of DIYAR AL MUHARRAQ and officials, H.E.Mahmood Al Mahmood Parliament Member, Eng. Abdul Nasser Al Mahmeed President of Muharraq Municipality Council, Mr. Jassim Al Qasser General Director for the protection of Marine Resources, Mr. Anwar Al Hariri Director of Fish Resources, Dr. Abdul Redha Shams Director of Marine Resources and Mr. Ghazi Al Murbati Muharraq Municipality Council Member. The Mariculture endeavor using the Hamour fish follows an earlier and highly successful experiment to introduce a large batch of Sobaity Bream juveniles into the waters surrounding the project. The release activity aimed at stock enhancement, is an initiative of the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife, and complements other marine habitat rehabilitation programs.
Mr. Abdulhakeem Alkhayyat, Chairman of DIYAR AL MUHARRAQ, expressed his satisfaction at the efforts, "We have released the second batch of small Hamoor today following the successful release of a batch of Sobaity fish in the past few days in different coastal areas surrounding DIYAR AL MUHARRAQ. The areas were carefully selected based on studies that have revealed regions of decrease in stocks. This will ensure the availability of fish at competitive prices in local markets, while more importantly; it will preserve the marine environment in its natural condition. Our efforts in collaboration with other organizations, who strongly support eco friendly activities of this type, will continue in complete earnest ensuring the preservation of Bahrain's natural resources.''
Mr. Aaref Hejres, CEO of DIYAR AL MUHARRAQ, added: "DIYAR AL MUHARRAQ will continue to focus on the infrastructure of aquatic and marine resources to achieve a more sustainable environment and as part of our strategic plan to carefully work on the enhancement of this vital sector. The rehabilitation of fish stock is something that we have been keenly pursuing with a view to maintaining and conserving the marine environment. I would like to extend our appreciation to all officials and guests who participated in this environmental effort carried out by DIYAR AL MUHARRAQ and would encourage further cooperation between the private and government sectors.''
As one of Bahrain's biggest mixed-use residential urban developments with a vast stretch of waterfront, DIYAR AL MUHARRAQ has taken its commitment to the ecology and environment of the country as a mission statement, participating in a series of initiatives to preserve natural resources and educate the public on eco-friendly ways. The dynamic Corporate Social Responsibility programs of the company factors in many aspects of the environment and the problems that are encountered in conserving and preserving it.
