Dubai (UAE): As part of Dubai Metro Project, the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) is planning to construct an elevated metro station at Al Karama to serve the public transport users in that area.

To facilitate traffic flow during the  construction period, the RTA has announced that partial traffic diversions is planned to be implemented from October 12 between Al Karama Junction and Kanoo Junction, and full diversions from October 14 between Kanoo Junction and Sana Junction. Soon public information flyers will be distributed to inform road users of the extent of the traffic diversion.

In order to construct the necessary piers for carrying the elevated railway route as well as the railway station, piling works for Al Karama Station is planned to commence on Friday, 30 September 2006. The work entails constructing columns deep in the ground to support the railway station structural loads.  This is a normal industry practice for constructing elevated railway stations.

Al Karama station is situated in the heart of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Road with entrance pods from both sides. It is the first elevated station on the southern side of the Creek and will be one of the five elevated stations on the Red Line where the concourse and tracks will be elevated.  The station will be constructed in the middle median of the road. It will have a unique design with dramatic curved shell roof, creating a noticeable landmark.

Al Karama station will be preceded by Burjuman-the underground station where both the Green and Red Lines will meet and will be followed by Al Jafiliya station which will have the concourse at ground and the tracks elevated.
