United Arab Emirates, Dubai, April 7, 2013: Dubai Hospital in collaboration with the Medical Education Department (MED) recently hosted the 2nd DHA Nursing Education Conference at Rashid Medical Library Auditorium. The theme of the event was "Appreciating New Synergies - Transforming Nursing Education through Innovation and Research".
The aim of the event was to attract innovators, educators, nursing faculty, managers and nursing leaders interested in the improvement of education by integrating Quality and Safety Education competencies with teaching strategies, research; academic and clinical practice partnerships.
The Director of Dubai Hospital Nursing Services, Mr Fouad Chehab said during his opening speech said: "Maintaining a viable nursing workforce will not be possible without consistent efforts to empower and motivate them through facilitating continuing education and professional development opportunities".
The scientific sessions were comprehensive, interactive and inspiring, with expert Speakers from varied settings who provided their input on the latest trends in Nursing Education. The key note speakers were Professor Charles Docherty, Head of School of Nursing, RCSI Bahrain (and director of clinical simulation) who held a presentation on "The Challenges in establishing a Nursing Faculty in the GCC region" and Marel Pike, Head of School of Nursing at Kings Unitech, Australia who spoke about Using Web 2.0 Technologies in Nursing Education.
Dr. Khalil Qayed, Director of the Medical Education Department, at the DHA said, "We are working along with the various nursing education units in DHA hospitals towards aligning nursing education and professional development with regulatory and licensing requirements which in the long run may be supported with suitable recompenses."
The Medical Education Department is supporting and facilitating several nursing education conferences, workshops, courses and programs for the betterment of nursing workforce in DHA. Emirati Nurses are given special attention in the process. The upcoming events facilitated by MED includes the 1st DHA Nursing Leadership Conference in May 2013, the 2nd Community Health Nursing (CHN) conference in September and the 6th DHA Nursing & Midwifery Research Conference in October 2013.

Over 400 nurses and midwives from all over the UAE attended the event.
