Abu Dhabi, 07 March 2011: Dewan Architects & Engineers, one of the region's leading architectural and engineering consulting firms, has been awarded the contract to design and supervise the construction of the Premier Inn Hotel at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The 300-room hotel, which represents an investment of over AED 100 million, is set to open in 2012 at a strategic location within the Abu Dhabi International Airport precinct, opposite the new Terminal 3 building.
Premier Inn is the UK's biggest and fastest-growing hotel brand with over 580 hotels and in excess of 42,000 rooms across the UK and in Ireland. Premier Inn opened its first international hotel in Dubai in April 2008, a 308 bedroom property in Dubai Investments Park. Hotels in Dubai Silicon Oasis and at Dubai International Airport opened in May 2009 and January 2010 respectively. Premier Inn was confirmed as the leading Economy brand in the JD Power European Economy Hotel Guest Satisfaction Survey 2008, 2009 and 2010.
According to Mohamed Al Assam, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Dewan, the hotel's design offers a carefully selected mix of facilities to cater to the expected business/transit traveller market, which is captured in simple linear architectural form, and which responds perfectly to the context as envisaged by both the masterplanners of ADAC (Abu Dhabi Airports Company) and Premier Inn Hotels..
Dewan's design showcases contemporary architecture, with the building appearing as two aesthetically appealing intersecting masses representing the efficient and functional layout of this 3-star hotel. Finished with glass and aluminium cladding, it boasts an image that is consistent with the rest of the precinct - uncluttered and contemporary design representative of the function.
Said Al Assam: "The project is more than just an inspired architectural expression of a comfortable and friendly hotel environment; it is a practical approach towards providing high standard services to guests through a careful selection of self-sustained venues within the hotel."
Another feature of the project is Dewan's focus on sustainable design. Says Al Assam: "The building has been designed, and will be detailed and built to achieve an Estidama Pearl rating as per the requirements of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), and as per the environmentally conscious vision of Premier Inn Hotels as a developer striving to achieve sustainable development across all its projects."
Dewan has also designed the Premier Inn Hotel at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Company (ADNEC) zone which is currently being built and is expected to be open for business before the end of the current year
