Dubai, UAE, 23 July, 2014: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced its participation in GITEX 2014, to be held from 12-16 October at the Dubai World Trade Centre. DEWA will showcase its latest smart services and initiatives as part of its ongoing efforts to support the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to ensure happiness of Dubai's residents by enabling them to use smart services anytime anywhere. DEWA's smart initiatives are also in line with its vision to become a sustainable world-class utility and reinforce its leading position in the field of smart services.
DEWA has announced a campaign that will mark its participation in GITEX 2014. DEWA's customers will have the opportunity to enter a daily raffle draw to win valuable prizes by conducting selected transactions through its smart application from August to October 2014. These include final invoice request (Move-out), request the service (Move-in), activating the automatic payment (Auto Pay), and Pay on behalf of a friend service .
Each year, DEWA actively participates in GITEX, one of the largest ICT exhibitions in the world. This year, DEWA will go even further, having completed its transformation to smart services to keep up with the latest technologies and meet the needs of its customers.
At GITEX, visitors will learn, first-hand, how DEWA's smart services and initiatives can touch their daily lives and how to make use of these services at the touch of a finger, anytime, anywhere, thus contributing to their happiness.
Among DEWA's key initiatives that will be highlighted at GITEX, are its three smart initiatives that support Dubai's vision to be the smartest city in the world. The first initiative involves encouraging households and building owners to install photovoltaic solar panels to generate electricity. This is part of DEWA's efforts to preserve the environment as customers will get their electricity from renewable resources.
The second initiative involves installing and using smart meters and applications. Customers will benefit from additional services that enable them to monitor their electricity and water consumption directly through their smart devices or computers.
The third initiative is to install and manage infrastructure for electric-vehicle-charging stations in different parts of Dubai so that electric car owners can recharge their cars easily and conveniently. This will decrease air pollution and protect the environment against the impact caused by transport sector in the Emirate.
All these initiatives will contribute significantly to providing excellent service to all citizens and residents of Dubai by providing the latest technologies and using them to diversify the energy mix which supports the green economy and sustainable development in Dubai.
"We are looking forward to our active participation at GITEX 2014, which will provide a strong platform to showcase our latest smart services and technical achievements that contribute significantly to meeting the needs of our customers in line with the Smart Dubai strategy," said Moza Al Akraf, Acting CIO and VP of IT at DEWA.
"Our aim is to be closer to our customers through various smart services and initiatives that meet their daily needs and expectations. Over the past years, we have achieved a paradigm shift in our electronic and smart services, which save customers' time and efforts, and contribute to meeting their expectations and achieve their satisfaction," added Al Akraf.
DEWA started its smart transformation with dedication and commitment according to the highest levels of competitiveness in 2010. This was proved by providing over 150 services and features on its updated app on iOS platform in October 2013 and on Android platform in November 2013.
In addition to providing smart services to customers, consultants, suppliers and job-seekers, DEWA has recently launched the first specialised smart services for government organisations. Through the app, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality and Civil Defence can send their comments and feedback to DEWA related to any of its facilities.
In its efforts to provide its services across all platforms and adopt the latest technologies, DEWA has recently launched its smart app on Samsung smart watch (Galaxy Gear2) to be closer to its customers across all modern and smart devices that fulfil their needs.
DEWA's smart app supports HTML5 platforms and its web application on the website (dewa.ae) for mobile phones. It can also be used on other platforms such as BlackBerry, Windows, Windows Phone, Samsung home applications and Etisalat's eLife.
