Abu Dhabi: The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has been awarded three internationally-renowned awards for achieving excellent standards in its supply and procurement services, in the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Middle East and North Africa Awards ceremony, which took place in Abu Dhabi last week. After being shortlisted for 11 out of a total of 14 award categories, DCT Abu Dhabi’s Supply Management department was honoured for exceptional individual performance of its employees in addition to its outstanding contribution to the procurement industry worldwide.
The three awards won by DCT Abu Dhabi included the CIPS Procurement and Supply Chain Management Professional of the Year, which was awarded to Waleed Al Saeedi, Supply Management Director at DCT Abu Dhabi; CIPS Young Procurement and Supply Chain Management Professional of the Year, awarded to Hamad Al Marzooqi, Senior Tendering Specialist at DCT Abu Dhabi; and Best Contribution to the Reputation of the Profession, for the overall performance of DCT Abu Dhabi’s Supply Management department over the past year. The Awards ceremony came a day after a visit to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, where the Supply Management Department took members of the CIPS Middle East and North Africa Branches to the universal museum. The visit was able to foster a valuable exchange of knowledge and practices by bringing together essential members in the procurement community including delegates from various countries such as Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Egypt, Sudan and Botswana.
HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, Undersecretary of DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “We are very proud to have won, not just one, but three of the CIPS awards this year, exemplifying our hard work and constant pursuit of excellence. The Supply Management department plays an integral role in the strategic structure of DCT Abu Dhabi, being as it is the section responsible for managing the expenditure of the entity in a manner that supports the execution of business operations, projects and events”.
Waleed Al Saeedi, Supply Management Director at DCT Abu Dhabi; added: “Through our continuous efforts to manage suppliers, lower risks, increase operational efficiency, and most importantly, to increase the added value of activities and events, we strive to best position the Emirate of Abu Dhabi as an exceptional cultural and tourist destination. Therefore, we are committed to achieving world-class standards in procurement in order to best utilize our spending in the promotion and development of the Emirate’s unique offerings, as well as by adopting the latest technologies and top sustainable approaches when dealing with global markets”.
Beyond these recent achievements, the Supply Management department is currently working on achieving the CIPS Platinum level after it had been granted the CIPS Standard Award last year, which was achieved after undergoing the CIPS Diploma programme alongside a rigorous Organizational Development course with CIPS.
CIPS is the leading professional organisation in procurement and supply chain management, that aims to promote and develop high standards of professional skill, ability, and integrity among all those engaged in purchasing and supply chain management around the world.
