As part of the efforts by the Environment Department of Dubai Municipality in the protection of natural resources and the application of a specific mechanism for the issuance of permits for transport and storage of processed soils, the Environmental Monitoring Section of Dubai Municipality has reported an increase in requests for soils of various kinds in 2011 in all sites.
A new location for the provision of agricultural soils has been opened in Altai area. Al Warqa site to provide landfill sand and marsh has been restarted to deal with large orders. In addition, the operation in the site at Lahbab area will be continuing.
Mohamed Ibrahim Marzouqi, Head of Natural Resources Control Division, said that the Lahbab site is allocated to provide landfill sands and marsh. The new location in Altai will provide agricultural soils, and both sites will be working twelve hours a day in two shifts, five days a week.
"Required quantities of sand or soil will be provided for clients after studying the actual requirement based on the data submitted. Coupons will be disbursed against symbolic amounts ranging between 10 and 20 dirhams for each truckload of 20 cubic meters depending on the type of soil required," he said.
"Comparing to the quantities extracted from the different types of soil exploited by individuals or companies for the past two years, there is a remarkable increase in the amount of natural resources processed from sites. The increase in demand of agricultural soil for the year 2011 is approximately 54.6%, and 68.3% for the landfill sand, while the demand for marsh increased about 438%, due to the growing need of many existing projects in the emirate," he added.
