Dubai - The Department of Economic Development (DED) is sponsoring a radio programme entitled 'Al-Mostathmer' (The Investor) on the Noor Dubai channel to encourage young UAE nationals to set up small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The radio show, which is broadcast every Saturday at 8pm on 93.9 FM, acknowledges the achievements of SMEs and highlights the local government services offered to them by DED and other bodies.
An informative one-hour programme, Al-Mostathmer covers a variety of topics to help young nationals manage successful projects, acquire leadership skills and surmount operational challenges.
The programme features three main segments: Case studies; general information on planning and implementing a successful small project, an interview with a young national and business strategies shared by a successful entrepreneur. Al-Mostathmer also has a call-in segment that enables listeners to comment and ask questions.
"The DED is sponsoring Al-Mostathmer to provide young nationals with an integrated radio show that discusses all aspects related to Small and Medium Enterprises. We hope the programme will encourage young nationals to start businesses and help them gain the necessary administrative and leadership skills to manage them," said Mr. Khalid Al Kassim, Deputy Director General for Planning and Development at DED.
"The programme targets young nationals who are willing to run their own projects. The young generation has the spirit and talent to enter into new lines of business and also has the means to discover new opportunities," added Al Kassim.
The Department of Economic Development develops the entrepreneurial skills of nationals through a series of training programs, workshops, seminars and SME Diploma courses. The SME section at the Business Sector Development Division of DED works closely with academic experts to ensure that the programmes meet the requirements of the upcoming generation of UAE nationals who are keen on setting up their own businesses.
