Dubai - The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) has convened a 2-day workshop for junior assessors involved in the Dubai Human Development Award (DHDA). The workshop, which took place on 10-11 September at the Fairmont Hotel, Dubai, focused on improving assessors' understanding of the Award Criteria and their ability to measure the performance of the organisations participating in this year's award.

"DHDA is one of the initiatives that the DED has implemented to focus on Human Resources (HR) and encourages local organisations to treat their human resources as an asset and invest in them accordingly. The workshop enabled the assessors of the award to gain more information on how to evaluate the performance of the participants this year," said Mr. Saad Abbas, Coordinator General of the Dubai Human Development Award at DED.

"One of the DED's goals is to enable local businesses to meet world-class standards. We have helped them to adapt best management practices in the way they do business. We have achieved our goals through a number of quality and excellence initiatives, which we launched during the past few years," Abbas added.

The workshop attracted 16 human resources specialists from large corporations in the public and private sector. They were trained on how to follow an agreed assessment process and understand the scoring method. Their task is to conduct site visits, measure performance, write feedback reports and help the organisations involved to meet the standards and criteria of the award.

This year's edition of the DHDA will include awards in seven economic sectors including Finance, Construction, Trading, Professional, Services Sector, Tourism, Manufacturing and Semi Public (for each sector). Each sector has been sub-divided into two categories: Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), comprising companies of less than 250 employees and Large Enterprises (LEs), with more than 250 employees.

The DED will organize a workshop for senior assessors at its premises on September 20.
