Thai trade officials has recently discussed with Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry the possibility of launching a Thai week in Dubai. The event, to be organized under the patronage of DCCI is assumed to be a promotion exhibition showcasing a wide range of products in arenas of tourism, culture and tradition, with workshops in parallel.

The proposal came in a meeting Dr. Ahmed Abdulrahman Al Banna, Deputy Director of Dubai chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) and a  Thai delegation headed by Dr. Pravich Rattanapian, Special Envoy of the Prime Minister (Middle East & International Trade), in the presence of Mr. Sultan Lootah, Manager of Business Promotion, and Mr. Chainarong Kiratiyutwong, Deputy Consul General of Thailand in UAE.

The meeting discussed the issues of mutual interest and the commercial and investment opportunities available in Dubai and the ways of enhancing the level of

cooperation between the business communities in both Dubai and Thailand.

Mr. Rattanapian assured that Thailand is keen on participating in all international exhibitions held in Dubai, which helped making a lot of success and generated good relations and interaction with local and regional partners, which will lead to  a strong partnership with the business community In Dubai.

Dr. Al Banna stated that the Emirate enjoys strong Thai relations with Thailand, and it's so important to keep on contacts and networking as a good method to boost interaction through exploiting the investment opportunities in both sides.

He emphasized on the diversity of the sources of Dubai's non-oil GDP stressing that trade gets 18 %, industry gets 18 % and agriculture 1% while services get 63 %. He noted that tourism, a part of services sector, gets 18 %- "in the year 2003, Dubai received more than 4 million tourists. Compared to the total of inhabitants of the Emirate (1.4 millions), that's a significant figure", he said.

He also spoke on creating Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC) which will attract many international banks, insurance & brokers companies to UAE and the region, indicating to establishing the international stock market which will exploit the differences in times of closing between the European and Eastern Asian markets.

Dr. Al Banna highlighted the significant development in tourism in Dubai with a hotel capacity of more than 32000 nights, and the outburst in the construction, building and real estate sector with a rate of 40 % in the year 2003. He assured that "Emirates Airlines" has launched flights between Dubai and Bangkok, which is mostly fully booked because of the diversity of touristic attractions available in Thailand such as resorts and well known spas.
