Inks agreement with Airports Council International

DUBAI - HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and Chairman and CEO of Emirates Group, singed an agreement with Airports Council International (ACI) for establishing in Dubai world-class facilities for training in safety, security and airport management.

The result of a proposal made by Mohammed Ahli, Vice President of ACI's Asia Pacific Region, and Operations Director of DCA, the agreement was signed on March 14 during the governing board meeting of the ACI.

Robert Aaronson, the Director General of ACI, signed the agreement on behalf of ACI.

According to the plan, the training course(s) to be conducted at the hub will be accredited to ACI and will be recognised by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation), the UN specialised agency for international civil aviation.

"Joint training at the airport level is a very effective way for our respective organisations to provide compliance with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices. This global consistency underpins a safe, secure and sustainable aviation industry," Dr. Taieb Cherif, Secretary General of ICAO, said during the video conferencing session at the meeting.

The meeting discussed many issues affecting international airports, and among these security, safety and training took the centre stage.

Receiving congratulatory messages from Dr. Cherif on behalf of the DCA, Mr. Ahli invited the ICAO to consider moving its headquarters from Geneva to Dubai.

The meeting was preceded by the ACI Airports Business and Trinity Forum 2007, the global airport commercial revenues conference of the year. The Forum attracted over 350 delegates from leading airports, concessionaries and suppliers from around the world.

The ACI is an organisation of 573 members, who represent a total of 1,648 airports in 178 countries. The governing board consists of 29 CEOs and top officials from leading airports in the world.
