Dubai, United Arab Emirates (ME Newswire): D-Link Middle East, the end-to-end computer network solutions provider for consumers and businesses, today announced that its xStack® DES-3200 Series was one of the first product lines to receive the MEF 21 certification from Iometrix test laboratory, the MEF authorized certification test lab. The first group of certified telecom equipment vendors were publicly announced and awarded with the MEF 21 certificates at the Carrier Ethernet World Congress in Berlin on September 24, 2009.

The MEF 21 certification is a program that provides telecom equipment vendors independent and globally recognized validation for their Link Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM), and provides a solid foundation for multi-vendor interoperability. Attaining this distinct certification demonstrates D-Link's commitment to providing comprehensive networking products for the Metro Ethernet market.

"The Metro Ethernet market has globally been a major focus for D-Link. As one of the first vendors in the industry to be MEF 21 certified, we significantly reduce our telecom customers' and service providers' OPEX by eliminating costly truck rolls, on-site diagnostics and troubleshooting," said Harrison Albert, Regional Sales Director at D-Link Middle East. "We have demonstrated a strong track record of providing innovative and robust technologies in the Metro Ethernet market and will continue to help our customers in delivering substantial economic and implementation benefits to their businesses," Harrison added.

The DES-3200 series is the newest member of the xStack Managed Switch family, which is specifically designed for the large-capacity Metro ETTX and FTTX market.

This series offers desktop size 10- or 18-port options, suitable for deployment at buildings in an FTTX environment. The fanless design ensures quiet operation, reduces energy costs and contributes to a greener environment. The series also currently offers two 28-port models, each of which include 4 Gigabit/SFP Combo ports that provide up to 4Gbps of uplink bandwidth or dual Ethernet ring topology support. These switches support 100Base-X fiber cables, allowing service providers to maximize "last mile" access at a range of up to 20 kilometers.

These switches are equipped with comprehensive metro-specific software features. For example, Ethernet Rings Protection Switching (ERPS) offers an extremely fast convergence capability when link fault is detected, providing adequate reliability for carrier networks. The certified and awarded Ethernet OAM features alleviate the nightmare of network troubleshooting, further complying with the SLA. As the next generation of D-Link's best-selling metro-capable switch DES-3028, these DES-3200 switches are armed with robust security, superior QoS, multicast and enriched management features. These attractive features are field tested and market proven in the carrier network.

The D-Link DES-3200 Series includes the following switches:

  • DES-3200-10:      8-Port 10/100Mbps + 2 Combo 1000BASE-T/SFP
  • DES-3200-18:      16-Port 10/100Mbps + 2 Combo 1000BASE-T/SFP
  • DES-3200-28:      24-Port 10/100Mbps + 4 Combo 1000BASE-T/SFP
  • DES-3200-28F:   24-Port 100Mbps SFP + 4 Combo 1000BASE-T/SFP

The above models are expected to be available in the early fourth quarter of 2009.
