Month-long event features a number of exciting international shows and the interactive Nakhool Tent
Kingdom of Bahrain - June 26, 2011: Final preparations for Bahrain Summer 2011 are underway as the launch of the popular annual festival approached. Held under the slogan "A Victory of Joy" and organized by the Ministry of Culture, the month-long event which commences on the 1st of July features an eclectic mix of must-see shows performed by world-famous artists at the Cultural Hall and Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Center (BIECC).
Bahrain Summer will host an exciting line up of spectacular shows and a plethora of accompanying educational and artistic events, highlighted by the festival's mascot "Nakhool" who will be hosting daily free cultural entertainment and educational activities for children throughout the festival month in the Nakhool Tent next to the Arad Fort.
The MoC confirmed that demand for tickets has been very strong, with many people coming from abroad to purchase their tickets which are now on sale exclusively through the festival kiosk in Bahrain City Center until the end of the festival. Events at the Cultural hall are free of charge, while those held at the BIECC start from BD up to BD 10 depending on the seating location.
In tandem with the festival, the public can take advantage of numerous promotional offers provided by hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, and public theme parks.
Her Excellency Sh. Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa, Minister of Culture in the Kingdom of Bahrain commented on the event: "Bahrain Summer this year differs as it represents the summer of joy, unity and hope. It will be an expression of our love for our Kingdom and optimism for the future and determination to face any future challenges. Bahrain Summer this year holds a diverse range of musical, cultural and educational programs that cater to Bahraini families, tourists and residents alike. We hope that everyone will join us for the festivities and in celebrating our love for our country and our victory of joy, unity and hope." Her Excellency the Minister of Culture also extended her utmost gratitude to the efforts of the organizers and companies who have a hand in making this festival a resounding success.
Audiences will be treated to a wide ranging variety of cultural showcases including choreographed shows derived from the folklore of different cultures from across the world such as "Fuerza Y Compas" - a Flamenco and Ballet fusion set to Afro-Cuban rhythms. A group of talented Georgians ranging from 7 to 14 years old will introduce Bahrain to the distinctive traditional dance of their country in "Samaia's Little Virtuosos" as part of the Georgian Legends event.
Homegrown group Mohammed bin Faris Band teams up with the Kuwaiti Folklorist Band to exhibit the rich musical heritage of the Gulf to music lovers in "Fan Al Sout" (The Art of Sound), while the "Merchants of Bollywood" showcases India's colorful melodies through a narrative journey of a young girl and her love of Kathak dance. Respected vocalist Samar Kammouj will pay homage to the legendary Egyptian composer Riyadh Al Sonbati by singing his most admired work.
Audiences can also look forward to the the unique sounds of "Chen Lo and The Lo Frequency" which mixes hip-hop, jazz, blues, kwaito, soul, rock & roll, R&B and afro-beat music. "The Dhol Foundation Concert" will entertain crowds with the deep soulful sounds of traditional drums.
"Bahrain Summer" sets also include kid-friendly through family shows such as Barney's Space Adventure, Fan Yang's Gazillion Bubble Show, and Alice in Wonderland performed by Canadian theatre Tout A Trac.
Tickets will also be made available at the venues on the day of the performance, space permitting.
