Dubai 06 April, 2005: Cedars Jebel Ali International Hospital, the first and only Hospital in Jebel Ali, is expanding the scope of its CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) and First Aid training to secondary school students beginning with the 10th graders of the Al Diyafah School.

The Life Support Training Division of Cedars J.A.I.H. has been actively training teachers, baby-sitters, parents, industrial workers and executives, in the intricacies of life support training and basic first aid, taught to the standards of the American Heart Association, the American Safety and Health Institute, the National Safety Council and St. John Ambulance.

"No one knows when a sudden illness or accident may happen, and when it does, very often every minute counts. We believe that everyone should have a basic understanding of CPR & First Aid, and thereby have the knowledge and capability to be proactive in such a situation. This is what we hope to impart with our training to the tenth grade students of the Al Diyafah School," commented Dr. Pathma Naidu, First Aid instructor.

The CPR & Basic First Aid course taught by Cedars J.A.I.H., is an eight hour course, which encompasses everything from judging what action should be taken in a particular situation, to acquiring the basic first aid skills required should any emergency situation arise, both in theory and practice. The hospital insists on the ratio of instructors to participants be kept to 1:6, while ensuring that all the instructors are healthcare providers, most of whom are doctors.

"First Aid is one of the essential ingredients of the holistic education afforded to our children at Al Diyafah High School, Dubai. Hence, we are indeed grateful to Cedars Jebel Ali International Hospital for conducting the course for our present year 10 students. The students were very appreciative of the efforts put in by the instructors and have learnt a lot from the workshop," said Rocky Miller, Principal, Al Diyafah High School.

Not only has Cedars J. A. I. H. successfully trained maids, parents and teachers in the Mirdiff and Jumeirah districts of Dubai, they have also conducted week long training courses on Advanced First Aid for specific industries in accordance to the standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Apart from all this, they also teach the Basic Life Support course for healthcare professionals.

Established in 1999 as a full fledged 24-hour medical centre under the name of Jebel Ali Medical Centre, the Cedars Jebel Ali International Hospital today caters to the needs of the Free Zone companies, as well as the port, hotels and local residential areas. The hospital's mission is to become a tertiary care medical service provider focusing on quality and excellence, ensuring that medical care is accessible to everyone and at all times.
