Dubai: CBRE’s ‘Women in Business’ Forum returned for the fourth edition on October 31st at The Address Boulevard, Dubai. More than 80 female business leaders from across the UAE attended the session, that considered the role of women business leaders in Expo 2020, and its legacy planning. The panel saw experts across a range of sectors including law, infrastructure, transport and finance provide insights into Dubai’s fast evolving business landscape and the challenges and opportunities this presents to women in leadership.
CBRE’s ‘Women in Business’ Forum seeks to promote equality in the workplace and initiate thought-provoking discussions around gender equality. The issues raised during the forum are then used by CBRE to continue developing internal as well as external initiatives that will help support female leaders in their respective industries.
The attendees were welcomed by Nicholas Maclean, Managing Director of CBRE MENAT. Katie Fielder, international news presenter and anchor, moderated the panel which was led by a number of female experts:
- Nadia Abdullatif Al Ameri - Managing Partner at Accutax
- Hazel Jackson - CEO of BizGroup
- Catherine Workman – Infrastructure Partner and Global Board Member at Pinsent Masons
- Clemence Dutertre – CEO at Hala
- Asma Dakkak - Senior Manager at CBRE MENAT
Commenting on the event Nicholas Maclean, said: “CBRE, here in region, is blind to gender in recruitment, promotion, remuneration and opportunity and as a result our team is balanced almost exactly 50/50, male/female. Why wouldn’t we be? We take; shape; and nurture all talent to ensure that we create a team that provides the best possible solutions for our clients. I am delighted to host this event to showcase our role in discussing solutions for the issues facing working women and if we are able to contribute towards workplace improvement then the necessity for this event will naturally become extinct”.
During the event, the panelists discussed the importance of building the right mindset and community around Expo 2020 to ensure its legacy long after the event has closed; the role that learning and networking must play in enabling women to excel in leadership roles; how female leaders can join together to build more creative solutions that enable for more efficient ways of working; and, combining logic and emotional intelligence to become a truly authentic leader.
Event moderator, Katie Fielder, added, “While the UAE has made tremendous progress in the arena of gender equality in recent years, there is still a long road ahead. It’s thanks to such platforms as ‘Women in Business’ though, that we’re able hear from leading business figures to celebrate our successes and identify the areas that still require greater development.
