More information on Cartier & the GenevaSeal:
The House of Cartier, one of the most prestigious watch-making firms in the world, has joined theextremely select group of watch manufactures certified to display the GenevaSeal. This highly sought-after stamp seals the installation of CartierWatch-Making in Geneva, where its master craftsmen have developed and craftedthe calibre 9452 MC that now bears this greatly coveted certification.

Created in the 19thcentury by a guild plagued by counterfeit products, the Geneva Seal iscurrently considered to be the symbol of watch-making perfection. Enacted intolaw in 1886, the Geneva Seal is probably one of the oldest professional labels, recognised both as an indication of independent origin and a guarantee ofsuperior quality.

To obtain the Geneva Seal, twelve quality criteria must be met, one ofwhich concerns a precisely defined standard of timekeeping precision. Thelatest revision of these strict regulations dates from 22 December 1994 andensures that rigorous testing is carried out - to which the prestigioustourbillon 9452 MC calibre is submitted - under the scrutiny of inspectors fromthe Watchmaking School of Geneva.

The regulations are also related to the quality of the components andtheir manufacture. The catalogue notably details the fabrication of steelparts, screw heads, stones, toothed gears, axes and pinions. Other instructionsaddress the fixing of the balance spring, the technical fabrication of theoscillating system and escapement, the painstaking craftsmanship invested inthe manufacture of winding elements and the adjustment of the hands, as well asthe care and attention necessary for the creation of other components - ofwhich the 9452 MC caliber has meticulously achieved.

For Cartier, winningthe Geneva Seal certification for this new calibre confirms its priority touphold the most prestigious watch-making tradition of all.
