Dubai - New to ATM, a team from Cardiff Airport (CWL), is visiting the region to build aviation connections and collaborate with Visit Wales in promoting the many Welsh tourism and trade opportunities on offer.
Access to Wales from the GCC region is available through daily flights with KLM to Cardiff. Currently more than 72,000 visitors travel between Cardiff and the UAE each year.
Spencer Birns, Aviation and Business Development Director, points out that the airport has over 50 direct routes to more than 900 onward destinations through hubs such as Amsterdam, Paris, Dublin and Barcelona.
Apart from its established business credentials with Welsh exports to the UAE amounting to £1.1Bn last year with six-fold growth in just 10 years, Wales' connection with the Gulf's flourishing aviation sector is more than just skin deep.
Birns' adds that Wales proudly makes the wings that successfully fly the growing fleets of Airbus aircraft for airlines across the region operated by Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Oman Air, Gulf Air and Air Arabia. He said "We are developing our proactive relationships with the carriers and tour operators in the region to broaden access to our market through Cardiff."
