Matcham: We aim to focus on and promote a leadership culture

Capital Club Dubai, the region's premier private business club and a member of the ENSHAA group of companies, yesterday (Wednesday 15 December 2010) launched 'Leadership Central' - an interactive knowledge-sharing series that aims to inspire, entertain and foster long-term learning about the critical issue of leadership in these difficult times.

Described as a "Network of Leadership Networks", it includes the Harvard Business School Alumni Association, the Intel Capital network of Entrepreneurs, Bloomberg TV, Capital Club's network of 1,500 members, as well as a number of other corporations and leadership associations.

Speaking of the launch, Capital Club CEO Russell Matcham said: "Leadership Central is aimed at bringing together different networks of leaders and professionals, and the aim is to focus on and promote a leadership culture in our environment. It is the first platform of its kind in the region, and Capital Club is proud and honoured to be part of this initiative."

The concept of Leadership Central was developed by well-known entrepreneur, media professional and CEO of Vantage Holdings, Tariq Qureishy, who explains that the objectives of his project are to cluster and congregate leadership communities on a central platform, to learn from the talent of international and regional leaders visiting Dubai, and to raise sensitive topics and push business boundaries in a light-hearted and entertaining way.

Qureishy launched Dow Jones Markets/ Telerate in the Middle East in 1987 and then worked as Regional Director EMEA for over 12 years. He was also the Launch CEO/ Publisher of The Times and The Sunday Times, and is currently developing the commercial interests and presence of Bloomberg TV in the Middle East.

In line with its core focus, Leadership Central's special guest for its launch was renowned speaker, advisor, and author on the subject of strategic leadership, Dr Tommy Weir, who shared the insights gained from his conversations with top leaders during 2010. Regarded as an authority on leadership in fast growth and emerging markets, Dr Weir has worked with over 2,500 CEOs and business leaders from around the world, ranging from Fortune 100 companies to newly established corporations.

Said Matcham: "It is a popular belief that leaders grow best by learning from what other leaders are, or aren't, doing. Listening to Dr Weir reflect on what the world's top leaders were talking about and acting on over the past year was truly insightful, and I hope that each attendee is able to utilise these insights by putting some of Dr Weir's thoughts and advice into action."

The initial Leadership series will include six monthly events, as well as three additional one-off events hosted by international guest speakers.

Located in the DIFC, the Capital Club Dubai is an exclusive private business club, with membership by invitation only, offering its members exceptional meeting, networking and entertaining opportunities. Since its launch, Capital Club has built an elite and influential membership, reflecting the international and cultural diversity of the region. The membership roster includes many of the region's top business leaders.
