District Cooling System to Cut Energy Consumption by 35 Percent
Dubai: 15 November, 2006 - Dubai Properties today announced that the highest of The Executive Towers at Business Bay has reached 42 floors, with 352 concrete slabs added since construction began on the towers in 2005.
The Executive Towers consists of nine residential towers, one hotel and one commercial tower. All towers will be serviced by off-site district cooling systems, which are an effective and efficient means of air conditioning. Allowing central plants to cool water and distribute it through a network of piping systems to individual buildings, this system results in a 35 per cent reduction in energy consumption.
Shahab Lutif, Business Development Manager at the Business Bay, Dubai Properties said: "During the pre-construction and construction phase, we explored diverse sustainable options including district cooling systems and double cavity walls. These ensure that stringent regulations on thermal insulation and air permeability fully comply with the highest international standards."
With 5,400 workers employed on site, the super structure of The Executive Towers is proceeding on schedule. Progress is also being made on the main infrastructure of the Business Bay development with expected completion of Phase I by 2008.
The main contractor for The Executive Towers is Al Habtoor Engineering, while the Business Bay infrastructure is being handled by Halcrow Engineering.
Business Bay is a master development by Dubai Properties located between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. Business Bay offers waterfront high-rise towers, both commercial and residential, along the extension of the Creek.
