156 graduates received certificates from Labour Minister H.E. Ali Bin Abdullah Al Kaabi

Dubai, 30th August 2007: In a convocation ceremony hosted by BITS Pilani - Dubai (BPD), a well-known college of  engineering, on August 29, 2007 at its new campus premises at Dubai International Academic City , His Excellency Ali Bin Abdullah Al Kaabi, Minister of Labour, UAE, presented certificates to 156 graduates.  

The Bachelor's degrees for Engineering with Honours were awarded to the 4th batch of students; 73 graduates in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 43 in Computer Science and 40 in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. Awards were also presented to the first and second rank holders in each discipline of specialization and to the best all-round achievers. Chancellor's Medals were awarded to the toppers too.

Dignitaries, Dr. S. Venkateswaran, Prof Emeritus-cum-Advisor, BITS, Pilani - Rajasthan - India, Mr. Easa Al Ghurair Vice Chairman - ETA Star Group and Mr. S. M. Salahuddin, Managing Director, ETA Star Group, Dr. Abdullah Al Karam, Director General of Knowledge & Human Development Authority, Dr. Ayub Mohammed, Director General, Knowledge Village, Mr. Arif B. Rahman, Director Finance ETA Ascon Group and Mr. Venugopal Rajamony, Consul General of India in UAE, were the guests of honour on the occasion.

The proceedings were conducted by Dr. M. Ramachandran, Director BITS Pilani, Dubai and Mr. M. Riazuddin, Director, ETA-Net.

Dr. M. Ramachandran, Director BITS Pilani, Dubai said, "For us at BITS Pilani, Dubai, we consider as sacred the trust we enjoy from BITS-India, the ETA Ascon Group, our sponsors and the parents of our students. Our constant endeavor is to live up to that trust and expectations."  

All the students from the 'Class of 2007' batch completed their 4 years of engineering studies, which included 7½ months of rigorous internship in reputed industries in the UAE. The Graduates have received excellent job offers both through campus placements and their own initiatives. Some of the reputed companies where BITS Pilani, Dubai students have been employed are MAERSK, J.Ray Mc Dermott, Emirates, Mott McDonald, SAAB Marine, Honeywell, Steinweg-Sharaf, Fischer and Infosys.

31 Students have already secured admission for Masters and PhD degrees at prestigious institutions abroad, including the Stanford University, California, Cornell University, University of California, University of Pennsylvania, Texas A&M University, Texas, Georgia Institute of Technology and  University of Michigan.

A large gathering comprising graduating students, their parents, guests from the industry, faculty and staff attended the event for convocation.

BITS, Pilani, Dubai (BPD) was established in Dubai in September 2000 in response to the growing needs for Quality Engineering Education among the residents of Middle East. It is the only international branch campus of BITS, Pilani and was set-up in association with ETA-Net, a member of the ETA Ascon Group.
