Inaugural Hospital Build Awards highlights calibre of planned and existing healthcare facilities in the region
Dubai, UAE, 9th June, 2009: Clemenceau Medical Center from Beirut has been revealed as the front runner in the shortlist of Middle East healthcare facilities named in the inaugural Hospital Build Awards, with five nominations.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 15 June 2009, taking place as part of the Hospital Design and Upgrade conference, one of seven conferences running alongside Hospital Build Middle East Exhibition and Congress at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre, from 14-16 June 2009.
Beirut-based Clemenceau Medical Center, an ultra-modern medical institution which works in affiliation with the prominent and pioneering Johns Hopkins Medicine International, has been nominated for Best Hospital Design (Built), Best Interior Design, Best Sustainable Hospital Design, Best Healthcare Management Service Strategy and Best Facilities Management Service Strategy.
The UAE dominates the Best Hospital Design for future projects category, with nominations going to the Al Ain Hospital Project, University Hospital in Dubai and Sheikh Khalifa Specialist Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah.
"It is a great honour to be recognised by the healthcare industry for our work on the Al Ain Hospital project," said Thomas Kettenbach, Managing Director of Faust Consult, the architects on the project team.
"We will be providing a unique community hospital which will gather various centres of excellence, rehabilitation services and outpatient clinics under one roof. The quality of the patient environment and optimised clinical workflows are our main goal of the design work.
"Healthcare facilities in the region continue to improve and to be nominated alongside two other important hospitals from the UAE is particularly meaningful," added Kettenbach.
The Middle East's healthcare projects remain relatively unaffected by the global economic crisis because of government support and a long term commitment to healthcare infrastructure growth. As the healthcare industry thrives and grows there is a need to recognise and reward industry leaders and innovators.
IIR Middle East, the organisers of the event, worked with an esteemed panel of judges from around the world, including Ted Jacobs, President and Founder of Ted Jacobs Engineering Group from the USA, Kamil Eid, Manager of Health Services for HDP (Overseas) Ltd., Awni Qubti, CEO of Universal Hospital Services in Jordan, and Randy Edwards, Managing Director for Middle East, Asia and Europe from Ellerbe Becket.
The panel examined nominations submitted by healthcare facilities from around the Middle East region to build the shortlist for eight categories which recognise excellence in design, operation and management of healthcare facilities.
The eight award categories are: Best Hospital Design - Built; Best Hospital Design - Future; Best Interior Design - Built; Best External Design - Built; Best Sustainable Hospital Design; Best Healthcare Management Service Strategy; Best Facilities Management Service Strategy; and Best Manufacturer of the Year.
"We were impressed with the number of nominations we received for the Awards and believe this reflects the need for a programme of this kind to recognise good practice in constructing new healthcare facilities in the region," said Kamil Eid, Manager of Health Services for HDP (Overseas) Ltd. and a member of the judging panel.
Organised by the team behind Arab Health, the region's largest annual gathering for healthcare professionals, the inaugural Hospital Build Middle East Exhibition and Congress (www.hospitalbuild-me.com) will bring investors, commissioners, backers and managers of major healthcare building projects together with planning, design, building, operations, management and refurbishment suppliers.
