UAE University students visit Bechtel's Civil Centre for Engineering Excellence

UAE, April 23, 2014

Bechtel has hosted a group of Emirati students from the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), at its Civil Centre of Engineering Excellence in Dubai, to offer them insight into its day-to-day operations. The visit came as part of Bechtel's job shadowing initiative, in partnership with INJAZ UAE, a member of Junior Achievement (JA) Worldwide.  The programme allows students to experience engineering activities and learn about the career opportunities that exist in the engineering, construction and project management disciplines.

"Working with Bechtel, the engineering students have gained an understanding of the workings of a world-class engineering office.  This experience will assist the students when choosing a field for specialization in their higher studies or careers," added Eric Mumm, Manager of Bechtel's Civil Centre of Engineering Excellence.  "Bechtel places an emphasis on training and skills development wherever we operate and we are delighted to have the opportunity of sharing our knowledge and experience with the next generation of Emirati engineers."

During the event, the group of students worked alongside Bechtel engineers to learn about real-life engineering challenges encountered on Bechtel projects, and discussed career development opportunities available on major infrastructure projects in the Gulf region and beyond.

"We hope that the success of events like this one at Bechtel will inspire more organisations to host up and coming engineers of the future," said Sulaf Saleh Al-Zu'bi, CEO, INJAZ UAE,

Bechtel partners with Junior Achievement globally to promote education, especially in the streams of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).  As part of the partnership, Bechtel runs a series of job shadow days around the world, featuring a one-day, in office or on-site, mentoring experience.  Bechtel has supported INJAZ UAE over the past three years to introduce over 300 students in the region to diverse career opportunities.
