Geospatial technologies crucial to monitoring UAE's environmental status
Bayanat for Mapping & Surveying Services, a leading national provider of geospatial services, will highlight its leading technologies and services and show its full support for Abu Dhabi's sustainability efforts during the Eye on Earth Abu Dhabi 2011 Summit running from December 12 to 15, 2011 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
Hosted by the Environmental Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) in partnership with the UN Environment Programme and facilitated by the Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative, the Eye on Earth Abu Dhabi 2011 Summit will gather global leaders, innovators and decision-makers to explore effective strategies for improving global access to environmental and societal data. The summit will be held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.
During the Summit, Bayanat will showcase some of its advanced geospatial capabilities such as the world-leading technology of bathymetric Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) scanners. LiDAR is an optical remote sensing technology that has numerous environmental applications in the areas of natural and man-made activities' impact on land cover and marine ecology such as soil erosion analysis and coastline changes monitoring. Bayanat will also deliver a presentation during the Summit's technology showcase.
"One of Bayanat's priorities is to deliver geospatial products and services that add value to environmental initiatives. We are eager to lend our expertise to the environmental industry, especially in Abu Dhabi, and educate the public on the many societal benefits of geospatial technologies. Eye on Earth Abu Dhabi will provide us with an excellent opportunity to join the global movement towards using information to improve the quality of life and protect our natural resources," said Khaled Al Melhi, Chief Operating Officer, Bayanat for Mapping & Surveying Services.
A major goal of the Eye on Earth Abu Dhabi 2011 Summit is the environmental and social data community's adoption of the 'Eye on Earth Summit Declaration' - a document that will provide input to the 'United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development' to be held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2012.
