- Participants from over 26 countries will use the Glasurit® range of refinish products during the competition
Dubai – BASF announced today its sponsorship of the 44th edition of WorldSkills, the greatest vocational education and skills excellence competition in the world, which will take place in Abu Dhabi from October 14-19 2017. BASF will be the principal category partner for the vehicle painting category, with participants using the refinish products of BASF Glasurit®, the premier paint brand in the region.
“WorldSkills inspires young people in the UAE and across the world to choose a trade such as vehicle refinishing as their life’s vocation and this needs to be supported and encouraged if we want to create a sustainable industry,” said John Frijns, Vice President Market Area Middle East, BASF. “The Glasurit® brand is approved by most of the leading automotive manufacturers to be used in their bodyshops. Our partnership with WorldSkills is an extension of our strong technical training program.”
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The organizers expect over 100,000 visitors from all over the world and competitors representing the 77 Member countries and regions of WorldSkills International will participate in 51 skill competitions.
“We are grateful to BASF for its generous contribution,” said Ali Al Marzouqi, President of EmiratesSkills. “The company has a strong record of supporting vocational skills with top quality products, and we appreciate their sponsorship of the car painting competition at WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017.”
Despite the Middle East’s young population, there is still a shortage of job vocational specific skills in the region,” said Amira Alaa El Din, Marketing Specialist Middle East – Automotive Refinish Solutions, BASF. “The WorldSkills competition will give young talent access to Glasurit’s cutting edge coatings technology. They will restore a damaged vehicle to its original finish, match colours, shades and textures, in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. Our partnership with WorldSkills is exemplary for BASF’s commitment to skills development on a day-to-day basis.” For more information: https://worldskillsabudhabi2017.com
