More Than a Dozen Teams to Compete in Annual Golf Event at Riffa Golf Club
BAE Systems will tee off their 2006 Inter-Society Golf Championships at the Riffa Golf Club, located in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Thursday morning, September 21st. Saudi Development and Training has organised the tournament on behalf of BAE Systems.
The two-day tournament, an annual event for BAE Systems' Saudi Arabia employees, is comprised of 14 teams of 8 competitors each, battling it out for trophies and bragging rights. The Championship has been a tradition for the BAE Systems employees in Saudi Arabia for over 30 years and is currently being spearheaded by Saudi Development and Training.
"We are thrilled to be back in Bahrain for a third year in a row to commence this fantastic event. We are overwhelmed with the support we have received from Michael Braidwood (General Manager, Riffa Golf Club) and his team, and are also thankful for our sponsors and all of our employees who travelled to Bahrain to take part in this event," said Paul Dugan, Chief Executive, Saudi Development and Training.

Thursday marks the first day of the Championships, which will begin with a 7:00 a.m. shotgun start, during which 112 competitors will tee off to compete on an individual scoring basis. A gala dinner will cap off the evening, during which players can swap stories about the day's rounds and listen to live music.
Friday will see the conclusion of the tournament, once again, featuring a shotgun start at 7:00 a.m., but will comprise of 4 hours of team competition. The conclusion of the Championships will be marked by a final luncheon at Riffa Golf Club during which awards will be presented.
Sponsors for this year's Championships include: Saudi Xerox, Kanoo Travel, Riffa Golf Club, Saudi Development & Training, Mohammed Yousuf Naghi Motors - BMW, British Airways, Diplomat Radisson SAS, Lufthansa/Swiss, Multi National School - Riyadh, Wallan Aviation, and Wallan Automobile. A portion of the proceeds raised by this weekend's tournament will be donated to the Multi National School - Riyadh, focusing on the education of special needs students.
Awards will be given for overall individual and team victories, and additionally for "Closest to the Pin" and "Longest Drive." The organisers of the tournament are pleased to announce that British Airways and Lufthansa/Swiss have sponsored several airline tickets to destinations in the GCC and Europe, along with a business class return ticket to any European destination. This year, a spectacular prize has been added for a "Hole in One" for certain holes. National Motors, Al Moayyed Motors and Harley Davidson Bahrain have sponsored a Hummer, Ford Explorer and Harley, respectively.
Each year the venue of the Championships changes, however it has returned to Riffa Golf Club for a record third year in a row, due to previous years' overwhelming success.
