You don't have to be supermen to work up at such heights...but it helps!

The access specialists have joined forces with Ali & Sons, a prestigious group of companies, to provide both safe and secure working at height on many of the UAE's finest iconic buildings.

Working in extreme conditions is just another day at the office for the experienced workforce, from working at minus 5 degrees in the snow in Northern England to nearly 50 degrees here in the UAE.

The 14 year old British company has a history of access innovation and forward thinking and have won many accolades in the building industry in the UK, including the City of London Sustainable City Award in 2011. Some of the prestigious projects Avalon has been involved in include working on the London Olympic site, Tower Bridge, Windsor Castle and the Tower of London.  Working with UK Trade & Investment, the UK Government department that supports British companies export overseas, Avalon Abseiling are successfully working on projects in the UAE and Kuwait.

Professional Rope Access Technicians (as they prefer to be called) have been maintaining structures and buildings internationally for over twenty years now, having started in the North Sea oilfields and as an industry they can boast that they have the safest record of any 'building' trade.

Phil Boyce, Managing Director at Avalon, said:

'The contract to work on the Olympic Velodrome was really exciting opportunity for us and the principal contractor created a very collaborative work environment where our expertise was well received. The opportunity provided great exposure for us and the trade and a number of other contractors on the Olympic park who saw our work also sought to use our trained technicians to deliver other projects where access was awkward or restricted.'

The company's main market will be to deliver contract cleaning and maintenance to the iconic and unusual structures that have been erected around the Emirates, as well as developing access strategies to enable safe working and access to any tall building or structure.  In addition Avalon will bring their skills and qualifications to deal with glass replacement, safety system design and installation, pest control and condition surveys. As one of the few registered IRATA organisations in the region Avalon would look to develop a good relationship with other similar businesses to ensure that construction accidents from poor training or management are eliminated.

Ali and Sons Managing Director, Mr. Shamis Al Dhaheri, said "we are very pleased to have Avalon as part of our business delivery acting as the Local service Agent in the UAE. We have known Avalon through our contracting division and have been impressed by their portfolio of projects and ability to innovate solutions. We have listened to our clients and safety is a real concern, working at great height is a necessity with the buildings we have put up and the safer we can make the future management of them the better. Abseiling offers a quick, safe and encompassing solution."

So the next time you see men on the outside of the building up at 500 feet spare a thought for these young intrepid climbers, who really are living the high life in the UAE!
