Kuwait city - Flights and hotels are not the only ones grabbing the attention of travellers this summer. It seems car rentals are increasingly becoming an integral part of leisure and business trips. A new study by autome.com, the specialist in car rentals in the middle east sheds some light on the trends this summer.
United Arab Emirates
Founder and CEO of "jood", the internet group operating autome.com Mr. Bashar Alostad says UAE is the most booked destination in the Middle East (17.9% of all bookings). He says this is due to the country's tourism offerings, especially in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Europe
"Germany, Switzerland and Austria are the most booked countries in europe this summer (about 36% of all bookings)" said Mr Alostad. It is not surprising given the excellent roads infrastructure that encourage travel between cities in western europe, in addition to the countryside sceneries and reasonable car rental prices of german cars in germany and surrounding countries.
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
As for the KSA, Mr. Alostad points out that "internal tourism and constant travel between the kingdom's main cities around the year has led to the country grossing 17.1% of all bookings, especially Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah and Almadina."
Turkey
"Turkey has started the summer season with very high interest for car rentals (12.9% of all bookings)". Said Mr. Alostad. This is expected given the country's rising popularity in the middle east especially cities like Istanbul, Bursa, Trabzon and Antalya.
New destinations
"This summer has witnessed the emerging of unusual destinations like Georgia, Prague and Sarajevo" added Mr. Alostad. This is because of the increasing number of direct flights from GCC Airports to these destinations. In addition to the quality weather and competitive prices compared with the saturated markets of traditional summer destinations.
