Dubai, July 25th, 2011. The School of Engineering at the American University in Dubai (AUD) has announced the launching of a new undergraduate program - the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (B.S.C.S.), with a target start date of Fall 2011. The university has started accepting applications from students interested in enrolling in the program.

The new B.S.C.S. curriculum was developed in line with the highest standards in the field, utilizing the guidelines of the US-based Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). The new program is considered a natural evolution to AUD's long-standing computing heritage, with its existing Computer Engineering and Computer and Information Technology programs.

Commenting on the new program, Dr. Alaa Ashmawy, Dean of the School of Engineering said the Computer Science program "strategically targets niche areas in computing that are rapidly emerging at the international level, and are highly sought at the regional level.  Our program boasts an excellent and energetic group of faculty, already on board to deliver the curriculum, as well as state-of-the-art computing facilities."

The program applicants will be able to choose from three different tracks: Databases, Game Design and Development, and Network Security. All three tracks have been fairly popular among students who wish to pursue their studies in Computer Science. Computer Science students will be able to design, develop and maintain databases and computer applications, design operating systems and mobile applications, and develop secure computer networks.

The program will educate students to develop algorithms and computer codes, and generate computer graphics as tools to simulate real systems and to solve problems.  Common applications range from information processing and data mining, to knowledge representation, pattern recognition, computer vision, artificial intelligence, and game design.

Upon graduating, the Computer Science students can pursue careers as Software Developers, Programmer Analysts, Applications Developers, Computer Game Developers, Network Architects, Database Administrators, Web Services Developers, Systems Analysts, Information Security Specialists, and Software Test Engineers.
