Co-Founder of well engineering firm SPD recognised for lifetime achievements in business and contributions to society
23 November 2011, Dubai, UAE: Mr. Alistair Davidson, co-founder of specialist well engineering management consultancy SPD, has been awarded the prestigious title of Oil Baron 2011. The official crowning took place during the Oil Barons Charity Ball, held last week at the Meydan Racecourse in Dubai.
Mr. Davidson is the ninth recipient of the Oil Baron title, an industry accolade awarded every year to a top executive from the energy sector in recognition of their lifetime achievements in business as well as for their contributions to the wider community.
The Oil Baron 2011 trophy and 10-gallon Stetson hat were presented to Mr. Davidson by last year's Oil Baron, Mr. Kevin Roberts, in a commemoration ceremony that is widely celebrated for its traditional fanfare and Dallas-inspired spirit.
Hailing from Aberdeen, the Energy Capital of Europe, Davidson has served the international oil industry for more than 27 years and has extensive experience in all types of well engineering and operations. In addition to the UAE, he has worked in the UK, Ireland, Thailand, Russia, Peru, Brazil, Yemen, Iran, Georgia and Turkmenistan.
Having worked in the Middle East for 11 years, Davidson was nominated as an Oil Baron candidate by his industry peers from no less than 35 regional energy companies. This, combined with his exceptional business performance and volunteer work in the UAE community, led judges from dmg :: events, Pipeline Magazine and former Oil Barons to bestow the 2011 Oil Baron crown upon him.
Davidson founded SPD in Dubai in 2002 with two other colleagues and has been instrumental in growing the business regionally in the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Yemen and other countries in the Caspian. To date, SPD remains the only well engineering management consultancy headquartered in the UAE. A part of the Petrofac Group, the company has many significant projects in the region as well as in Mexico, Romania, Malaysia and New Zealand.
Despite his full business schedule, Davidson still finds time to support his local community. In addition to being an active supporter of the Oil Barons Charity Ball and its sole beneficiary the Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP), Davidson volunteers as a rugby and football coach at sporting clubs in Dubai and the UK, participates in various fundraising activities for his children's school in Dubai, and supports a children's cancer charity in UK.
In a heartfelt acceptance speech at the gala event, Davidson said: "I am truly honoured and humbled to receive the title of Oil Baron. It really means so much to have my achievements recognised by my industry colleagues. I am very grateful to dmg :: events for this award and I look forward to working with them over the next 12 months to continue supporting the great work of the Friends of Cancer Patients. Kevin Roberts has left me a very big hat to fill. I hope to do everybody proud."
Organised by dmg :: events and Pipeline Magazine, the Oil Barons Charity Ball is one of the biggest fundraisers for the UAE's only recognised cancer charity, the Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP). Since the event became a patron of FOCP in 2008, it has raised more than AED 1.4 million for the charity.
