Beirut – Lebanon - Alfa, managed by Orascom Telecom, signed a sponsorship deal with Al Riyadi Club of Beirut for the men's basketball team participation in FIBA Asia Champions Cup in China this month. The signatory on behalf of Alfa was its CEO and Chairman Marwan Hayek, while Al Riyadi Club’s signatory was its President Hisham Jaroudi.

The signing ceremony took place today at the company's new headquarters in Parallel Towers in Dikwaneh. The ceremony was attended by an administrative delegation from Al Riyadi Club comprising the club’s Vice President Tammam Jaroudi and secretary Mazen Tabara, in addition to Alfa executives and staff and media representatives.

Jaroudi

In his speech, Jaroudi said, “We are honored to visit Alfa in the presence of its CEO and Chairman Mr. Marwan Hayek, a supporter of sports and the youth in Lebanon”. He added, “We are proud of our friendship with Mr. Hayek and his permanent contribution to the promotion of tournaments that promote Lebanon and give a positive outcome on the national level”.

Jaroudi went on, “We came here today to express our gratitude to Alfa and to sign a sponsorship deal in support of the men’s basketball team participation in FIBA Asia Champions Cup in China, on behalf of Lebanon and Lebanese basketball”. He added, “This is not the first time we cooperate with Alfa, as it has already supported women’s and men’s basketball teams in local and foreign tournaments. Indeed, it is always at the forefront when it comes to supporting Lebanese sports and boosting the morale of young Lebanese men and women”. Jaroudi also thanked His Excellency the Minister of Telecommunications Boutros Harb for his moral and material support, and said, “We hope that his contribution with us and with other clubs will have positive repercussions on both basketball and our country”.

Hayek

For his part, Hayek welcomed the attendees and Al Riyadi club delegation, headed by Jaroudi, who “is the club’s rock and the foundation of modern basketball as we know it.”

He added, “We met last year with Al Riyadi club and announced our support to the women’s team, which has won several tournaments since then. We consider this to be an achievement for Alfa, as these ladies have upheld the banners of both Lebanon and Alfa around the world”.

He pointed out that “The men’s basketball team won the 2011 FIBA Asia Champions Cup, and we hope that they will be victorious this time as well, so that we can raise the trophy up high together”.

Hayek added that Alfa supports all sports in Lebanon, “because we believe that sports brings the Lebanese together around the Lebanese flag, either through competition between the Lebanese clubs, or through their representation of Lebanon in world championships. We are honored to see these clubs reach this stage of fair competition, and we consider ourselves a positive tool that contributes to raising the level of Lebanese sports, especially basketball, which is one of the sports with the most achievements and dazzling results in tournaments in Lebanon, the Arab and Asian region, and soon in Europe too”.
