Completion rate reaches 60% in phase III of Parallel Roads and 60% of Rashid Hospital Tunnels
H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), announced that completion rate has exceeded 60% in Phase III of Parallel Roads Improvement Project, and almost hit 40% of Phase III (A) of the same project, while completion rate exceeded 50% in Phase II (C) of the project, and 30% of Rashid Hospital Tunnels Project.
Al Tayer made these statements during a tour that took him to several road projects undertaken by the RTA during which he inspected work progress in the Parallel Roads Project; which is one of several massive project constructed by the RTA. The road corridor starts from Sheikh Rashid Road in the North and ends at the outskirts of Abu Dhabi emirate to the South. It includes bridges and intersections with perpendicular roads.
In a gathering with the directors of contractor and consultant companies overseeing Parallel Roads project of Sheikh Zayed Road , Al Tayer stressed the importance of complying with the approved time schedule of the project, considering the importance of the project which serves several giant property projects and traffic movement in the vicinity of the project. He also directed them to adopt the highest global standards in the field of occupational safety in order to preserve the lives and safety of workers and engineers at sites.
RTA's Chairman was briefed to the completion rates of each phase, where about 60% of works have been completed in Phase III . This Phase of the project extends from the northern side of Street (116) to Interchange (5) on Sheikh Zayed Road. The road corridor passes across many key property hubs such Emirates Hills, he Springs and the Meadows. The road extends about 20 km and forms 14% of the total works of Parallel Roads project, comprises a 3-lane road in each direction, in addition to utility lines, pavements, rainwater drainage system and sewage system.
He also inspected work progress in Phase III ()A of the project, which is located at Jumeirah Lakes Towers area, and links property developments of both Nakheel and Emaar in the area to the south of Sheik Zayed Road between the two Interchange (5) and (5.5). The project, which is undertaken by the Italian Todini Co., includes construction of a 3-lane road in each direction extending 10 km, in addition to 7 separate bridges and one tunnel. The project also covers other associated works such as utility lines, pavements, signs, land markings, lighting, and protecting the existing lines. This phase accounts for 6% of the total works of Parallel Roads project.
Al Tayer continued his tour by inspecting the work progress in Phase II (C) of the Parallel Roads project; which is undertaken by Salini Co. This phase covers construction of two main bridges with two lanes in each direction extending 2.4 km, through adopting precast construction method. The project serves traffic inbound from Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Road at Lamcy Plaza and outbound to (312) Road to the front of Dubai World Trade Center. It also serves the traffic in the opposite direction of (312) Road to Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud Bridges as well as Dubai - Al Ain Road. The Project, which also serves trucks movement from Rashid Port to Dubai - Al Ain Road, includes improvement of the signalized junction of the World Trade Center in addition to infrastructure and lighting works.
Al Tayer concluded his tour by inspecting work progress in Rashid Hospital Tunnels Project; which is undertaken by Wade Adams Co. The project includes construction of roads and two tunnels of two lanes each extending 900 meters to serve the traffic coming from Tariq bin Ziyad & Umm Harir Roads towards the intersection of Al Riyadh Road and the extension of the Floating Bridge Road. The first tunnel passes from Tariq bin Ziyad Road underneath Al Maktoum Bridge, and the second one inbound from Umm Harir Road crosses Oud Metha Park and the two tunnels converge to form a 4-lane corridor heading towards Al Riyadh Road via Rashid Hospital.
The intersection of Al Riyadh Road with the extension of the Floating Bridge Road will be widened to 4 lanes, and the project also includes widening of Tariq bin Ziyad Road, improvement of Oud Metha & Umm Harir Road, and construction of a road to serve traffic inbound from the Floating Bridge towards Tariq bin Ziyad Road.
Al Tayer stressed that RTA is following up construction works in several road projects in the city as part of the vital projects currently undertaken with the aim of upgrading the overall roads network and providing advanced services at residential areas. This drive comes within the context of RTA's strategy and continuous efforts to keep pace with the urban development and meet the requirements of development and demographic expansion in the emirate.
