Manama, Bahrain - The Al Areen Holding Company (Al Areen), developers of the landmark mixed-use Al Areen development in the Kingdom of Bahrain, today announced the launch of a key component of the project - The Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park - that will be developed at a total investment of US$50 million. This unique water park will be designed and operated by a global leader in water park management, Sim Leisure Consultants of Malaysia, and will be fitted with the latest water park equipment from Canada-based White Water West, the world's leading supplier of water park gear.
Announcing the launch of The Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park, Eng. Waleed Ishaq Saffy, General Manager, Al Areen development, said: "The water park is another innnovative component of Al Areen and will add value to the overall project, which is being developed with the active support of the Government of Bahrain. Along with other eclectic components of the mixed-use integrated project, the water park will enhance the flow of leisure, family and health-oriented tourists to the Kingdom of Bahrain."
"The Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park is a first-of-its-kind water park in Bahrain with its own distinct theme, and has been designed in keeping with the overall development goals of Al Areen. We are confident that, upon completion, it will contribute to the Bahrain's tourism sector by increasing the appeal of Al Areen in Bahrain and the region," said Eng. Saffy.
Designed to showcase Bahrain's long and rich history, The Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park is located at the northern end of the Al Areen development. It is one of the more prominent locations within the development, adding greater value to this unique recreational venue. Spread across approximately 80,000 square meters, the water park is adjacent to the shopping mall complex within Al Areen, a luxurious five-star hotel and the Al Areen Wildlife Sanctuary.
Commenting on the partnership with Sim Leisure Consultants, Eng. Saffy added: "The Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park is a unique theme park concept that combines both history and entertainment, designed to carry the guests of the water park back to Bahrain's ancient past. We are convinced, after an extensive global search, that Sim Leisure Consultants, developers of Malaysia's landmark Lost City, is the ideal team for the water park project."
Upon completion in early 2006, the total built-up area of The Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park will cover more than 45,000 square meters, and is estimated to attract over 200,000 visitors per year. Additionally, over 20,000 square meters have been earmarked for future expansion and car parking.
Elaborating on the design of the project, Mr. Sim Choo Kheng, Managing Director of Sim Leisure Consultants, said: "The water park and its integrated landscaping have been designed to enhance the contours of the existing hilly terrain adjacent to the Al Areen Wildlife Sanctuary, infusing them with historically symbolic structures and motifs. The differentiating components of the water park will include a 300-meter long lazy river encircling a giant wave pool that features a sandy shore."
"In addition to its natural appeal, the lazy river will also act as a navigation path through the entire water park. It will flow through a series of themed secret tunnels lined with wall paintings, ancient artifacts, treasures and the accompaniment of state-of-the-art sound and visual effects," he added.
