Gifts, flowers and wonderful prizes await visitors landing at Dubai International Airport in traditional Arabic style and leave a lasting impression on those who have experienced it
The Airport Welcome Committee comprising officials from DSS, Dubai Civil Aviation and Sama Dubai extend a traditional welcome to all families arriving at the Dubai International Airport. Visitors are greeted with gifts, flowers and wonderful first arrival prizes worth Dh 3,000 to give them a taste of the legendary Arab hospitality. Keeping in line with the concept of the DSS, this gesture turns out to be a pleasant surprise for the visitors.
While cups of Arabic coffee, dates and sweets are made available in a special hospitality tent, visitors also receive copies of the printed theme guides for the current week in traditional Arabic style.
The warm reception left a lasting impression on many and gave them a glimpse of what to expect in the grand summer fiesta as informs Amani Al Hammadi, DSS Administration Coordinator, "The welcome reception is made interesting with the presence of performers putting up acts befitting the themed week as well as the traditional Liva and Ayyala bands performing on Mondays and Wednesdays. Then there is henna, face-painting and balloon-twisting for families while an Arabic calligraphist writes the names of visitors on a card and passes on to them free of cost. No wonder the visitors get into the mood of the summer fiesta right from the airport."
Saad Burjis Al Ajami from Kuwait has come to Dubai for the first time during DSS although he has been here once before for shopping. His 12-year-old son Burjis Saad says, "We loved the way we were treated at the airport and wish to come back again. It's very special indeed."
His 8 year old sister, Noor Burjis, who enjoyed DSF says that DSS seems to be even better, she also loved the welcoming at the airport.
Jaber Hassan Ali Baba, a Kuwaiti businessman who is a first-time visitor to Dubai says that he got to know about the DSS through TV commercials and was absolutely enchanted by the welcoming at the airport as the reception there came as a pleasant surprise. His nephew who travelled with him also liked the welcome at the airport.
Abdulla Mubarak Al Manai, a businessman from Qatar who has been to Dubai before but it's his first visit during DSS with his family said, "We had heard about the DSS but experienced it for the first time and all of us loved it. The very first impression gives an idea of what's in store. I think we are going to have a gala time here."
His daughters Noora and Abeer liked the welcoming and said it made them feel very special. Abdulla So'od Al Shamry, a Saudi visitor who came to attend the DSS for the second time says, "The summer fiesta was absolutely amazing last time and I think it's going to be even better this time round."
Abdulla's son, Khaled, 15 thoroughly enjoyed last year's DSS and he expects this one to be even better. He especially liked the Arts Surprises as he likes drawing and painting. Khaled's brother, Ahmed heard about the DSS from the media and says that it's yet another reason to come to Dubai, a place he simply adores.
He says, "Dubai has a unique way to do everything. The welcoming at the airport for instance, was a superb gesture for all inbound travellers. For all this and much more we want to return to Dubai again and again."
The 10-week long DSS, which opened with the Ice Surprises week on June 21, continues with the weekly themes of Art Surprises, International Food Surprises, Adventure Surprises, Cartoon Surprises, Nature Surprises, Knowledge Surprises, Flower Surprises, Heritage Surprises, and concludes with Back-2-School Surprises on September 1.
