General Civil Aviation Authority Encourages Aviation Professionals to Adopt the Latest Safety and Response Initiatives
Dubai, UAE: The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the United Arab Emirates, in tandem with the United Nation's World Food Programme - Aviation Safety Unit, launched an intensive three day workshop aimed at enhancing existing threat and error management (TEM) practices.
"In today's world, the increased risk posed to air operations through man made and natural threats has created an urgent need for threat and error management programs to constantly be updated and evaluated," says Samir Sajet, Regional Aviation Safety Officer of the United Nation's World Food Programme (WFP) - Aviation Safety Office.
Mr. Omar Bin Ghaleb - Deputy Director General of the GCAA, opened the first ever TEM workshop in the UAE at the GCAA offices in Dubai, with over twenty five aviation delegates from the country in attendance.
"We are proud that we host the (TEM) workshop. The three days workshop will serve the attendees to get together and discussed air operations and the latest management practices in human performances to reach a high level of safety", commented Mr. Omar Bin Ghaleb.
During the three day TEM workshop, Mr. Jaap de Lange, Managing Director of the world renowned International Aviation Training Professional company in Netherlands, has offered to work with the WFP Aviation Safety Office to provide cost free training and guidance to attending aviation professionals.
TEM, an overarching safety concept regarding aviation operations and human performance, evolved through the constant efforts to improve the safety margins in air operations combined with the practical integration of the growing knowledge on the 'human factor'.
Sajet added: "TEM does not teach a pilot how to fly an airplane; instead it promotes a proactive philosophy and provides techniques for maximizing safety margins despite the complexity of the flying environment. TEM helps organizations to integrate data from different sources such as maintenance, dispatch, flight reports to be framed into a defensive flying plan for pilots.
During the training, attendees will be taught how TEM has grown to become an organizational safety management tool used in training, incident reporting and accidents and incident analysis.
The United Nations World Food Programme- Aviation Safety office stresses the importance of good quality training to avoid accidents and the loss of human life or and property. In their mission to improve regional aviation safety culture, the WFP Aviation Safety Unit hosts regular trainings that are always free of charge to enhance safety management awareness.
Since the UAE won a seat to the member council of the International Civil Aviation Organisation in 2007, the GCAA has worked closely with the UN's WFP Aviation Safety in the Middle East (based in Sharjah) to further enhance existing safety procedures, raise safety techniques across all facets of air operations and offer aviation management workshops to both government and commercial aviation leaders.
"The GCAA has established a widespread reputation for placing strong emphasis on aviation safety through its pro-active approach in encouraging local civil aviation departments to constantly update existing safety techniques and ensuring a very low risk inherent to air operations," concluded Samir Sajet.
