North American Logistics Conference Awards Recognize Excellence

Alexandria, US - Agility Defense & Government Services (DGS) was awarded "Best Logistics Strategy" at the Defense Logistics awards ceremony recently for its Subsistence Prime Vendor Program, providing food and other products for the US Forces in Iraq.

Agility DGS was selected by an unbiased panel of defense sector leaders enlisted by Worldwide Business Research (WBR).  The full name of the award category is "Best Logistics Strategy:  A specific Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Defense Agency Project."

"We have always been honored to have the responsibility of supplying food to US Forces in Iraq, and we are now honored to have our performance strategy recognized as best-in-class among the many advanced, impressive and efficient logistics operations supporting the military," said Toby Switzer, Chief Executive Officer of Agility DGS.

The Defense Logistics 2007 awards ceremony was established to honor, recognize and promote the logisticians in the US Department of Defense and the Defense Industry that have made significant contributions to military logistics.  According to WBR, the winners "exemplify the best in current initiatives and undoubtedly set new standards of excellence for incorporating this transformational concept into future work for the DoD and its partners."

The Subsistence Prime Vendor Program is conducted under a contract with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) through which Agility DGS handles procurement, shipping, warehousing, and distribution of food and non-food products for all service branches of the US military.

The contract leverages Agility's vast logistics and supply chain capabilities in the Gulf region, which includes more than one million square feet of climate-controlled warehouse space and 6,000 transportation assets involved in the delivery of food and supplies to US military facilities throughout Iraq.  The contracting authority for this program is Defense Supply Center Philadelphia (DSCP).

Judging for the Defense Logistics 2007 awards was conducted by an objective Advisory Board which evaluated and scored each program through a transparent process. This board contained leading experts and practitioners in defense logistics. Judging organizations were excluded from judging categories in which they were under consideration.
