Abu Dhabi City Municipality - 19 April 2017:

Through the pavilion of Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADM) is taking part in Cityscape 2017 through exhibiting a series of modern community market projects.

Commenting on this, HE Musabbah Mubarak Al Murar, Acting General Manager of Abu Dhabi City Municipality, said, “Cityscape has become a global rendezvous that attracts leading comprehensive development projects. The Municipality is utilising this specialised showpiece to display its leading projects, services, and initiatives in various fields as well as its successful experiences and mega projects in infrastructure, services and recreational facilities.

The projects also reflect the strategy of the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport and Abu Dhabi City Municipality to foster a partnership with the private sector through undertaking comprehensive development plans and projects in Abu Dhabi emirate. Such projects form part of the Municipality's vision to establish modern and civilised leisure facilities that provide the city's residents with diverse recreational facilities and ensure the highest standards of decent living. They also contribute to raising the profile of Abu Dhabi as a tourist attraction and entertainment hub built to the highest international standards.

“The Municipality’s participation in the current edition of Cityscape features the launch of several unique projects highlighted by the Modern Community Markets in the suburbs of Abu Dhabi, comprising seven markets at a total cost of about 550 million dirhams,” noted Al Murar.

“Over the past few days, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality signed three agreements for building community markets at Mohammed bin Zayed City, Shakhbout City and Baniyas City.

On the first day of Cityscape, the Municipality signed three other agreements for building community markets at Yas Island, Al Wathba City and Al Shamkha City,” he noted.

Highlighting the details, Al Murar said, “An agreement has been made to design, construct, operate and invest a Community Market Project in Baniyas. It is located in land plots number (C16) in Sector (EB2 - 03) in Baniyas, with a floor area of 9,000 square meters at an estimated cost of 45 million dirhams.”

“The second project includes designing, constructing, operating and investing the Community Market Project in Shakhbut city. This two-year project has a floor area of 33,000 square meters costing about 160 million dirhams,” added Al Murar.

“The Municipality also plans to construct a community market in Mohammed Bin Zayed City in cooperation with the private sector, spanning an area of 36,000 square meters, costing about 170 million dirhams.”

“The fourth community market is Al Wathba market, with a floor area of 5,000 square meters, and a cost of 21 million dirhams,” elaborated Al Murar.

“Another community market is Al Shamkha Community Market Project, which occupies a floor area 16,000 square meters, and costs about 68 million dirhams,” continued Al Murar.

“In partnership with the private sector also, the Municipality will construct the community market project at Yas Island over an area of 13,000 square meters, with a cost tag of AED 65 million.”

“Finally, the Municipality is planning to establish a community market project in Khalifa City, attached to Al Raha Park, with a floor area of 2,700 square meters, costing about 15 million dirhams,” went on Al Murar.

“One of the key objectives of establishing community markets in these areas is to raise the standard of living in the city and residential areas by providing convenience stores, and high-quality service facilities. The community centres will also meet the aspirations of the neighbourhoods, promote social life, bring happiness to people and nurture a healthy environment for business, shopping and entertainment.”

“The projects aim to utilise public spaces in establishing quality projects, as these markets will provide service and shopping facilities with top specifications to improve the standard of living in these areas,” stated Al Murar.

“The community market agreements with the private sector stipulate for constructing markets operated by the private sector, including retail stores, communal facilities, and government service facilities for communities, residential districts and strategic partners. Thus it realises the 3 in 1 idea for combining community facilities, retail outlets and customer service elements to serve residents areas of the Mainland and Abu Dhabi Island,” added the Acting General Manager of Abu Dhabi City Municipality.
