Abu Dhabi's leading education institution delivers more benefit for students

Abu Dhabi, 9th September 2007 - Abu Dhabi University (ADU) welcomes over 3000 students and five new renowned faculty members this semester. Doctors Aly Nazmy (College of Engineering & Computer Science), Iskander Abdullah (College of Business Administration), Andrew Mulindwa (College of Business Administration), Zahra Awad (College of Arts and Sciences) and Thomas Davies (Institutional Research and Planning) have all joined the growing team of over 145 faculty members.

HE Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Chairman of the Executive Board of Governors at ADU, commented that he is proud to include these renowned professors to the ADU-family. We welcome these distinguished educators who will add academic value to our university. They all bring with them multi-faceted international experiences and clout, which will certainly benefit ADUs students and staff members alike.

The new Dean of the College of Engineering & Computer Science, Professor Aly Nazmy earned his Masters and PhD in Construction & Mechanical Engineering at Princeton University USA. Professor Nazmy has also served on the faculty of Polytechnic University in New York and University of Maine. He authored numerous research papers and published more than 60 essays and articles and two books.

Dr. Iskandar Abdullah, new Associate Professor of Marketing and Al Ain Campus Coordinator for the College of Business Administration, is a PhD holder from the leading Smurfit Graduate School of Business in Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Iskandar also holds a MBA from Central Michigan University in USA. He was awarded the high scholastic achievement award in business administration in Michigan, USA. Prior to joining ADU, Dr. Iskandar was a professor of marketing and director of graduate studies at the College of Business & Science in the Sultanate of Oman. Furthermore, he has served as a faculty member at Univerisiti Putra in Malaysia and Graduate School of Business, University College, Dublin Ireland. He is the author of over twenty published works, including books, chapters, and journal articles in addition to technical reports for the Ministry of Education of the government of Malaysia. Having earned his MBA at Central Michigan University, USA, Dr. Iskandar researched advertising, branding services marketing, media and audience studies, international marketing and consumer behaviour.

Dr. Andrew Mulindwa, who is a PhD holder from the University of New Orleans, is also joining the College of Business Administration. Dr. Mulindwa also holds a Masters in Finance from Boston University, USA. He specialised in the field of corporate governance, corporate restructuring and bankruptcy, entrepreneurial finance and emerging markets. Dr Mulindwa occupied academic positions at the New Orleans University, Bunker Hill College and Dillard University. He is currently working on various research papers and is a member of many professional financial associations including the Financial Management Association (FMA), Institute, Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), the American Financial Association (AFA) and Chartered Financial Analyst Institute (CFA).

Dr Zahra Awad is ADUs new Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics at the College of Arts and Sciences. Besides her extensive experience in teaching English as a foreign language, Dr Awad successfully established the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) program at the University of Science and Technology in co-operation with the British Council in Jordan. Dr Awad previously held the Chair of the Royal Sub-committee for Improving Teaching English at Jordanian Universities. She received both her Masters and PhD from the University of Stony Brook in NY, USA. Moreover, she has co-authored two books, one on integrated English as a Foreign Language skills and one on writing a research paper.

Finally, ADU welcomes Dr. Thomas Davies who joins ADU as the Director of Institutional Research and Planning Department. Dr. Davies has acquired interesting qualifications: he holds a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, specializing in Management Information Systems. He earned a Masters degree of Business Administration from the same university. Dr. Davies also holds a BSc in Computer Science.

He spent 6 years as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Administration at the University of New Brunswick in Canada. Dr. Davies experience and track record of success are ideally suited to build an effective institutional research program to satisfy the need for program assessment, support institutional decision-making, risk management and quality assurance at ADU. He and his Team will be working on developing a strategic planning and assessment process that documents expectations and assesses performance against those expectations of deans and different unit managers within ADU. They will also ensure that the information needs to meet accreditation standards are properly developed.
