The European Lighting Designers Association, ELDA+, will use the Light Middle East 2007 edition as their stage for a gathering of the good and great from the world of architectural lighting design. Set for Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre on 13 - 15 May, Light Middle East is regarded by the industry as the premier event in the region.
Evidence of this ripples through the list of supporters, including leading designers, manufacturers and professionals. These include exhibiting companies like Philips, GE, Color Kinetics, Kreon, Steinel, Martin Architectural and Osram, and participants such as ELDA's own chairman, Alison Ritter.
ELDA+ is a group of lighting design experts who are active all around the world on some of the most visible projects. Its members include professionals such as Maurice Brill, an authority in the field of lighting design, famous for projects like Canary Wharf in London, Hyatt Regency in Mainz, and high end retailers in his portfolio of successful projects.
The event is billed by the organisers, Messe Frankfurt as the region's only dedicated exhibition and conference for architectural, corporate, retail, theatrical, internal and exterior lighting. The event itself has doubled in size in less than two years and now covers Zabeel Hall. According to Ms. Silke Zachrau, Group Exhibition Manager, "the show has gone from strength to strength because the professional lighting industry want to be in their own dedicated environment."
The ELDA+ Light Focus Middle East conference presents a brilliant line up of 18 experts, all of whom are world renowned and award-winning. These include: Patrick Woodroffe, Tapio Rosenius, Rogier van der Heide, Jonathan Speirs, Mark Major, Paul Gregory, Akari- Lisa Ishii, Motoko Ishii, Barry Hannaford, Nick Hogget, Beau McClellan and Ted Ferreira, who's responsible for several current projects in Dubai including 2 themed parks.
From the world of theatrical lighting, Patrick Woodroffe and Akari-Lisa Ishii will present their ideas on lighting for music, dance, fashion and performing arts. Patrick's international experience enables him to develop on the challenge of working in foreign countries, in a presentation titled "Crossing Borders".
Adding creative flair to the conference is Beau McClellan. His talent has evolved over the years and, through his team at Ferro Design, he has graced the world with beautiful and meaningful lighting designs, such as the collection for Brumberg, the German light giant, the sculpture of Zephyrus, comissioned by the Loul Municipal Council, and the stunning chandeliers for the homes of Quinta Do Lagos. His point of view is that design needs to be functional.
Two different perspectives on lighting design are covered by Rogier van der Heide and Kai Piippo. They explore creating value through good lighting design and how good lighting can have a positive effect upon our personal environment.
Urban lighting is the theme of a presentation by Frdric Bove, who will offer economical design solutions. Meanwhile Mark Major returns to Light Middle East to present a history of lighting tall buildings, the lessons of which are especially relevant to developers and designers of the dramatic cityscapes of the Arabian Gulf.
The ELDA+ Light Focus Middle East conference is the place of convergence for remarkable talents ready to share their passion and vision on design lighting with the show's wider audience.
