The Roads and Transport Authority - Majdi Abu Zaid: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) revealed that more than 166 thousand individuals have downloaded the Smart Taxi app on their smart-phones during the first half of this year. The app, which was launched early 2014, comes in the context of Dubai Government's drive to make Dubai the smartest city worldwide, and its Smart City initiative.

"Recording more than 166 thousand downloads of the Smart Taxi app in six months only is attributed to the nature of the service, which is considered the first of its kind in the region, as it enables users book taxicabs and directly track their journey till arrival. The app provides access to the service by just a flip of the smart-phone. To start using the app, the customer has to enter the phone number, following which the app would search for the nearest taxicab and automatically direct it to the customer," said Musa Al Raeesi, Director of Transportation Systems, RTA's Public Transport Agency.

"The app can automatically locate the customer; which makes it quite easy to dispatch a taxi. Once the cabdriver confirms the request, the customer is directly informed about the location of the taxicab and would also be informed once the cab arrives at destination."

"Users can assess the performance of the driver; which would offer the RTA direct feedbacks from users and accordingly help in enhancing their satisfaction with the service, noting that this smart initiative covers more than nine thousand cabs in Dubai. At the end of the journey, a simplified 5-point feedback request is presented to the user for assessing the performance of the driver. Through this app, it would also be possible to retrieve previous booking requests to use them in placing new booking requests. Through this app, the user can make early booking of a taxi at any time and date, and if the customer approaches a taxi rank, the app can offer guidelines leading to the place," added Musa.

"The Transportation Systems Department at Public Transport Agency always seeks to benefit from high technology in upgrading its diverse services provided to various community segments at world-class standards. In view of the growing demand for taxicabs in Dubai, RTA is committed to broaden and upgrade its service offering to maximize customers' satisfaction," concluded the Director of Transportation Systems, RTA's Public Transport Agency.
